I want to make a recipe I acquired - it has red peppers, green peppers, and an onion pulled apart into large circles- If I only use these for the simmering portion of the cooking and do not eat the actual peppers or onion should it bother me???

It depends on your personal tolerance - I can eat cooked peppers and onions without any problem as long as I eat SF first. Some people have trouble with them.

Are you stable? I am and I can eat them cooked but not raw. But its true, it depends on your personal tolerance to them

Agreed... it all depends on your personal tolerances, and you honestly won't know that until you try them. I can't eat peppers at all, but I'm fine with onions - that's just me.
If you're hesitant to try to actually eat them, then yes, you should be fine with using them for the cooking part only and not eating them. I do that sort of thing all the time with peppers.

As I mentioned in another thread, I am new to IBS and this message board. I am wondering what Cailin meant by "stable". I am able to eat peppers and onions- sounds like I should consider myself lucky!

Stable means different things to different people-What I mean by it is being able to eat "safe" food without (a)being doubled over in pain with abdominal cramps and (b) having to run to the bathroom.
It means we can operate and eat relatively normally. For people who are not stable, Heather recommend the Breaking the Cycle diet which involves lots of solubles and very very safe food.
Lots of IBSers can't tolerate peppers or onions at all, so yes you are lucky. Our tolerances vary a lot but we all have blacklist foods too (coffee and red meat are mine)

As long as they're well cooked and I have them with plenty of SF, I'm fine with both. Try chopping them finely instead of into strips and rings...that way they'll cook more. But yeah, it's the IF that's the main problem, so not eating them solves the problem! I'm always picking up crunchy veg from sauces when we eat out or get takeaway!

What about chopped peppers that aren't cooked, for someone with a stomach which is unstable would this explain why I feel more bloated.

Raw peppers and onions would do it for me!!! I'm personally really sensitive to ONIONS and GARLIC, even cooked. Peppers that are roasted and peeled, are usually safer. Remember, you are only in the getting stable phase.
