Pressure from clothes

Is it just me that can't wear anything that covers my stomach unless it is very loose because even if ok before can bring on bloating and pain. As a result always have to wear loose trousers/skirts or "hipsters" that don't cover my stomach. It is a total pain and not very glamorous Any ideas?

Same problem here, unfortunately. I can't even stand any underwear that's tight. Many times at night my stomach is so bloated that I have to undo my pants and belt. Hopefully, none of the friends of my teenager sons will walk in on me like that! That would embarrass my boys to death! One night I jumped out of the car to go in the grocery store and realized I had my clothes undone! Thank goodness I realized it before I went in the store like that. Ha!

I wear overalls on those days. Not flattering and my husband teases me and tells me I look like a farmer. I wear bikini underwear - alot more comfortable.

just wanted to pop in and say i know what you mean, i am like that too but not everyday, i sometimes bloat so bad at night i look like im 5 months pregnant, its really ugly, but does anyone ever wake up with there tummy perfect? when i get up every morning my tummy is flat and perfect until i eat or drink something, is that normal? KAM

Hi Beck! I remember those days! Luckily I'm a stay at home mom now and can wear whatever is comfortable that day. I have found pants and skirts that have metal tabs at the waistline that are adjustable and very nice looking. Try jcpenney.com Not sure you've heard of it but it's worth a try. When I got pregnant with my first child I was so glad because I knew I would be wearing clothing that was stretchy and acceptable!

At least when we are all walking around looking like we're 6 months pregnant we know we're not alone!! This happened to me on a regular basis before Heather's books, but now usually happens when I know I have eaten something I shouldn't have.
I find the Fennel tea really helps, I just wish it would cool down a bit so I'd feel like drinking tea!The humidity affects me as well - fortunately Fall is coming soon - my favourite season! One other thing that seems to help me is walking or yoga - there is alot of new "yoga" clothing on the market that is very comfortable.

I wake up with a flat tummy in the morning (like today) and then eat something and it just starts growing. So frustrating. I'v been wearing lots of skirts with elastic waistbands for work, and work-out shorts when I get home. I can't wear my nice button-up summer shorts anymore. So very uncomfortable. Bummer!

I wake up every morning with a flat stomach and it starts bloating in the afternoon. In the evening I look like a different person! My mom was really jumping on me to lose weight because of my "big stomach". (I'm a size 4-6, for heaven's sake!) I finally showed her how flat my stomach is in the mornings and she couldn't believe it!

I've done the unbutton thing and forgotten it was unbutton. Sometimes if I'm wearing tight jeans and I eat dinner somewhere, I'll unbutton my jeans while sitting in the car because of my bloated stomach. Then I'll forget that I've done it and thankfully realize before anyone points it out.

This is probably my most depressing problem. Usually in the am my tummy not too bloated, I work out and eat oatmeal for breakfast and PUFF three sizes bigger! I went shopping this weekend and tried at least 25 pairs of yoga style shorts and pants with the elastic waist. I usually wear a 6-8, I even tried on 10 and the elastic was too tight! Its so frustrating, I reacently lost 40 pounds and I hate having to but clothes a size too big. The first thing I do when I get home from work is put on a night shirt so there is no pressure on my tummy. Since its been warm I have been wearing a lot of sun dresses, not sure what I'll do when it turns cold!

A lot of dress pants have tie up waists now which is great. When I found them- I bought a pair in every color they had! Otherwise, it is pajama pants and yoga pants for me. Luckily it is the "in thing" for college students to wear to class these days. Stretch jeans are a pretty good option too since they have lycra and will expand as your tummy expands.

Everyone replied with similar severe bloating experiences and yet..... I was under the impression that on Heather's diet that most of the board has their IBS under control. But if so many of us are bloating this badly something isn't working.
I bloat from rice, French bread, and yes even fennel tea. So for me the diet hasn't worked at all. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them because I'm at the point where I literally can't consume anything without bloating.

Hi Bobbi! My heart really goes out to you and everyone else on the board! I've been there so many times and was terribly frustrated. I've been using Heather's diet for almost four weeks now and am doing quite well. My bloating is down tremendously and my pains are much better. However, I still have my moments but I try not to feel bad about it. My husband is a sweety and makes me feel beautiful even when I'm bloated. I've cut out caffeine, dairy and sodas and contribute my slimmer gut to those culprits. I'm still having trouble with the red meat and wine though I'm still learning and changing. Good luck with the trial and error period and please don't make yourself feel bad. We all have different degrees of IBS and food tolerances, you just have to find your niche.

Yeah, I have the same My fav jeans and tight pants I used to look so good in:), are now sitting in my wardrobe useless. I wear only very loose pants and try to cover my stomach, wearing cardigans or loose blouses...It seems there's no way out, is there?

I've found that my smart trousers with a WIDE waistband are ok. Also, stretch jeans are my lifeline- except that I get told off if I wear them to work

I, too, get bloaty and end up in uber-casual clothes with stretchy waists. I'm tired of seeing myself in athletic gear! But really, I'm bloated mostly when I have cheated. Before I started Heather's diet, I was in low-rise jeans every single day at work to alleviate the pressure on my tummy-- I feel like constriction around the stomach makes the bloating really painful! Yuck. Anyway, being a good doobie on the diet has really cut down on the bloating, and now I can wear just about whatever I want (unless I'm PMSy, but that's a whole other story!!! ).
I'm starting the acacia, too. Just ordered it today. Is everyone who's got bad bloating problems taking soluble fiber supplements as directed? Just wondering. I know that I had bad bloating from some other fiber supplements. Maybe try switching to another kind? I've also heard other people on the boards say that they greatly reduced the amount of their supplements and then eeeeeeked it back up slooowwwwly, and found the bloating much more controlled. I also note that sometimes I get bloaty with soy if I'm not having my soluble fiber with it...
Just random thoughts in the hopes that they help someone!

Ha, ha, ME TOO! I always try to keep to loose or low waisted clothing with some sort of cardigan to cover my tummy. Guess we all deal with the same thing.... IT's hard because I can never look stylish, you know? I love when my tummy is flat in the morning! Those are great moments!

I am sitting at my desk at work right now with the button open. I try to be ever so careful! Before this diet I was much worse and there are times when my tummy looks almost normal, but it never ever goes away. The slightest cheat and HELLO BELLY!!! I will keep trying all the ideas I see posted and hope some day I can wear whatever I want whenever I want once again. Hang in there everybody!

I also do the open button thing when I'm at home and can safely pull it off... although I usually wear sweats around house. I've also had to give up all my tight jeans... actually, not even just TIGHT, anything not really loose. It's so annoying, because I'm young and I still look great in them if I may say so myself, but I have two pairs I haven't worn in over a year because they're just too uncomfortable. I know, not life or death, but very obnoxious.

Actually, I think Heather says that bloating is the hardest part to get under control. I think I just saw that in the new revised FAQ's.
As far as the unbuttoning thing, did it with my skirt at work once and forgot. I got up to go somewhere and all of a sudden my skirt is headed for my ankles!! Ooooops!!

yes, what would I do without stretch jeans? (as I sit at the computer my pj's with my bloated tummy!)Argh! This is just never ending...I have the same thing: flat tummy in the morning and totally bloated and HUGE by the end of the day. It doesn't matter what I do (and I am taking my fiber and drinking fennel tea like there's no tomorrow!) So frustrating!!
