Why does this happen?

Hello! I'm so happy to have found this site. I was finally diagnosed with IBS after a year of tests. I'm taking dicyclomine and anti-depressants to assist with the pain and urgent BM. Recently, I began having cramps after BM that last for about an hour or so.....any reason why? At first I thought it was my ovaries, but this cramping is more on my sides and the back. It always seems to occur in the evenings after a big meal.

Hi.
I'm not sure about this, but I would suspect the corner of your colon. I know that when I am having a rough time, these are some of the most sensative area - the muscles in your GI tract may just be having a hard time moving lots of food through that loopy part of the colon. I would say make sure that the meals are safe food, eat slowly and make sure you are not eating too much at once.
Hope you feel better soon!

4 to 4 1/2 oz of fish or protein, 4 oz cooked veggie, and cooked grain like rice or millet (1/4 cup dry), or a potato? Or is that too much for one meal?

Or for breakfast cream of rice cereal (1/4 cup dry) and a piece of fruit?

I know some of you only do 1/2 portions of oatmeal, but I can only eat one breakfast before work.

So do you guys think this dinner is too much at once? Do others eat less?

Augie, that sounds like how much I eat. If that helps.

I love having cream of rice with diced mango and maple syrup like Heather suggests in EFI. I think that's pretty much like your cream of rice with a piece of fruit.

...the mistake most newbies make is not snacking and then being really hungry by dinner so eating a big meal in one go. I tend to graze through the day and then have a normal (but not as large as I used to) evening meal.

And I must say it is great to see you giving out advice on the Eating Board!! We (who are still struggling) need all the pros we can get! It's nice when those who are stable still come back to help the ones who are not!

Thank you.

Is your cream of rice white or brown, BTW? I do brown, but then I am IBS-C and think I need the fiber.

I was particularly worried about the amount I was eating for dinner. I get full 1/2 way through! So may experiment with eating half at a time.

Thanks again for your continual support and advice!
*hugs* to you. Where are you this morning anyhow? I get used to seeing you and when you miss just one day, I worry!

If you get full, just stop. Stick it in the fridge and reheat it later if you want, but it was a big issue for me to learn to stop as soon as I got full.

Having a bad time with fibro atm, so my attendance is erratic!

No problem on the advice. I try! I know I haven't been that active on the boards for the past 6 months or so, but I think I'm finally settling down and can get back into the program.

I have no idea what kind of cream of rice I have. I use Nabisco Cream of Rice, in the orange box. Is that white or brown? I never knew it came either way.

Yes you can get cream of rice that is brown, and that is the only way it comes usually except for the Nabisco orange box. But I am C not D which I think you are, right?

Hmmm..never knew that. Learn something new every day.

Yup, I'm a D. So, I guess it's better I have the white rice version.
