Anyone seen the new Zelnorm commercial on tv? My hubby saw it the other night and told me about it, and I saw it for the first time this morning. It's cute. They show all these women with messages written on their bloated tummies (shirts pulled up) and then show women with flatter bellies, supposedly after taking this drug for IBS-C. I could definitely relate to that.

I've seen it a couple of times also. It is cute! (Who ever thought we'd be calling an IBS commercial cute? LOL) They have pics of the women with the writing on them on their website - saw it this morning when posting the address for Louise.

I actually seen it last night just before we went to bed - my husband and I were talking and I said "Omigosh be quiet for a second"
Not one of our finest moments as husband and wife - but he understood LOL.
We don't have Zelnorm in Canada I don't think. Then again, I have D so they probably wouldn't prescribe it to me anyways.

Louise, it is a drug for people with IBS-C. Some people really love it. I was on it for a few months. It was great for about a month of two and then it stopped working altogether. You can get more information on it by doing a search.

The new drugs like zelnorm and lotronex work on serotonin receptors in the gut.
Here is some info on this.
http://www.aboutibs.org/Publications/serotonin.html
Serotonin is majorally implicated in IBS symptoms, especially the motility end, c and d and alternating d/C symptoms.
However, it does not seem to fully explain IBS, however they know there is a dysregulation of it between the signals from the gut to the brain and back.

Yes, I saw it..... and my Mom called me this morning at work right after she saw it.
I will have to look into it more then talk to my DR. He told me about 3 weeks ago that he knew of a few drugs coming out but he was not about to let me be a ginny pig..... I guess he is just lookin out for me?

I might be interested in trying the Zelnorm if you could take it on a long-term basis. From what I understand, it is safe to take for 4-6 weeks only. What is the point if your symptoms return as soon as you discontinue it?

Has anyone taken Zelnorm for 3 months, stopped, and then tried it again at a later date? Did it start working again? If so, after how long?
I have my first GI appt on Wed and want to ask about it. I'm thinking this might be a good idea to use for when I know a month or two is going to be stressful.. like finals at school.

I haven't seen it but my mom has. She told me about it. Funny how they don't say the horrible side effects you can get. I wish my stomach was flat again! I have severe IBS-c
