I was first prescribed 10mg amitriptyline (Elavil) for IBS and noticed a slight overall improvement in all my symptoms. I then developed depression and was prescribed 20mg citalopram (Celexa) instead. This was great for my depression and meant that I was far less stressed and found it easier to cope with the IBS - this was the major help that a-d's gave me for my IBS.
This has been brought up frequently. You can find out a lot of info by using the search and typing in antideppresants with all forums and no time limits.
BTW, you already posted this question twice in the Living Room and once here. It really is confusing and clogs the boards when you triple post a question. Just be patient and someone will answer.
