I have checked through this site but maybe I missed
the answer to my question. I know we should take
fiber but am confused as to why acacia soluable fiber
is so much better for us than say a Fibercon tables.
I know the others gives me extreme gas (sorry) and
this is what I want to relieve myself from. I have
a lot of gas after a bout with by D, which I have
been having alot less lately due to this diet.
Sorry for this silly question but could not find answer
to it.

It really isn't "better", per se, in the way that it works - all soluble fiber supplements are going to *function* the same way in the body. However, acacia is the only one that's organic, it's got more soluble fiber per tbsp than any of the others (meaning that you take less, comparatively), and it can be stirred into food rather than just liquids. The biggest benefit is the dosage, though - you'd have to take an awful lot of fibercon (or any other tablet) to equal what's in a tablespoon of acacia. (Remember that the recommended dosage of SFS is 12-15g a day... if your tablet contains 500mg fiber, that's 24-30 tablets a day!!)

Mostly, people choose SFS's based on personal tolerance and preference. Some fibers react differently in different bodies. For example, I couldn't tolerate Citrucel (methylcellulose), but I can take FiberChoice (inulin) just fine.

Hope that helps!

Acacia also seems to have less gassy side effects than other SFS - in most people. This is another big plus for me!

With most people, as long as you start on a low enuogh dose and increase it slowly enough (amounts and times vary between people) then Acacia doesn't cause gas. I've had NO side effects from it...for a while I wondered whether it was doing anything as I had no reaction, but it works!

How small of a dosage do you take initially with acacia? Will this SFS eventually help the gas pains????

See Heather's notes here.

If you are particularly sensitive, you can start off at just 1/4 tsp twice daily. But you still need to get to a reasonable amount (9g +) to get the full benefit.

And yes, a SFS should help with ALL symptoms.
