Does anyone's colon get sensitive to the touch when their IBS-D is really active?

Definitely. I never could have told you WHERE my colon was before but I surely know now! It's not terribly painful to the touch, but definitely sensitive during an attack of D.

Have you tried abdominal massage at all?

And WELCOME to the boards, by the way!

No, it's not terrible pain, just sensitive.
No, I have not tried massage, does it work?

It works for me most times. I don't usually do it when I'm "in the middle of an attack", usually just when I'm really crampy or after an attack has subsided. Usuually my stomach is too "shaky" for that much pressure when the D is still coming (so to speak...)

Just find the spots on your belly where there is pain and gently press down with two fingers, making firm but gentle clockwise motions. Most of the time your dispersing trapped gas but it can also be really soothing to your belly in general, like for example your colon (go really gently there, maybe with your palm instead of 2 fingers). Often my stomach gets really rumbly when I do this, but it really helps with pain. I saw a naturopath once and she recommeded this to me.

Hi Nikki

Unfortunately my IBS is not stable right now, but I have had great periods in the past. What's inhibiting my progress is stress - I'm a student and my life is sadly soooo stressful right now. Sigh. But I know how to get myself stabilized (exercise, relaxation, eating at the same time each day, lots of sleep etc. - basically things that are hard to do as a student...lol).

I don't consider myself stable but I can go days/weeks without an attack - which is certainly something I never would have been able to do before this diet. Sorry, hope this doesn't de-qualify my advice!

No, it does not de-qualify your advice!!! I was just asking...I think I just need a little encouragement from an IBS-Der. It does encourage me that you go days and weeks without an attack...I would love to go one day without an episode of D!!
