Just a quick question-I tend to get D relating to stress e'g when I'm excited, nervous etc. I've tried cutting out different foods etc but i still only seem to get D at these times. Don't have any major stresses in my life except battling an ED. Can IBS only be stress related?? Don't get the pains or the constipation, only ever when i have D and that's maybe once every two weeks? And if it is only linked to stress what can I do???

hmmm.....not sure about this one....but I think if you can definately pin point the d to when you are stressed and know for sure that food doesnt bother you then yea Id say its probably that causing it and the only thing I can recommend you try is the hypno cds which heather sells on here...its 100 day programme of listening to a clinical hypnotherapist who specialises in IBS for 30 minutes each session each day. Ive done them and it has definately helped improve my stress related problems....Im actually having actual sessions with Michael Mahoney at his clinic now too to improve even more....Id really really recommend it for you...unless you're wanting to try anti anxiety or anti d meds??? If you need any more info just ask xx

I've found that mine was predominantly stress, but eating a safe diet still helps in the long run, by not forcing your body to digest foods that are irritating to the GI tract. (There are a lot of foods - red meat and dairy, for example - that are even irritating to people without IBS, they just don't ever notice it or attribute the problems to something else.) Besides, think of it this way: the IBS diet is how EVERYONE should be eating for good health, so you're avoiding future problems by eating well. But that's all beside the point.

For the stress part, unfortunately, the only thing I found that helped was anti-anxiety medication. I don't know how you feel about meds, but I tried therapy and stress-reduction techniques and didn't have much luck. Meds WERE NOT a 100% cure, but they've been a vast improvement.

Good luck!

Stress can definitely be a trigger and anxiety as well. So maybe you can talk to your doc about ADs and try some yoga or other relaxing techniques.

I used to get attacks from nervousness and stress but since I have become stable on the diet I don't seem to worry as much about an attck happening.

Good Luck,
Christie
