Okay, so after much saddness, I am finally giving up soda. I know it makes my abdominal bloating bad, and all the sodium was making other parts of me bloat too. I know it probably isn't nearly as hard as quiting smoking, but it feels like it! I was a total soda addict.
So now I have a new problem. At work, I get cravings for something cool and refreshing to drink in the afternoon. I drink my water, but I am not a huge water fan and it doesn't cure my craving. I drink tea every morning, most fruit juices upset my IBS, and I've been trying to drink these Crystal Light drinks (they don't upset my IBS), but a lot of them taste really nasty after a while.
What does everyone else drink besides tea and water?

The only other thing I drink is unsweetened cranberry juice and homemade iced tea.

I'm anxious to hear everyone's suggestions. I have the same problem. I am totally addicted to Diet Cokes. I am trying to only have one a day, on a full stomach, but I know I need to kick the habit. I am tired of drinking water, but I need something cool to drink in this hot weather. Tea is not a good idea if you are IBS-C since it can cause constipation. (good idea if you have diarrhea). Since I am IBS-C, I avoid tea altogether. I thought Crystal Light is supposed to be bad for IBS sufferers since it has the artificial sweeteners in it. Fruit juices are a bad idea. WHAT ELSE BESIDES HOT TEA CAN I DRINK? I AM DYING FOR SOMETHING COLD AND SWEET to drink too. HELP!!!!!!

I never heard of tea causing C. What kind or is it all of them?

In all of the reading I have done about constipation, I read that tea, regular and decaf, has tannins in it, that binds the stools together and thus, can cause constipation. That's why the doctor's office always suggest that you drink tea when you have diarrhea. (We're not talking about herbal teas; just the Lipton tea bag variety.) I will look online for the article and pass it on to you when I find it.

I'm IBS-C, and don't have a problem with tea at all. Don't have a problem with the Crystal Light either, but that's why IBS different for everyone.

I'm confused. If you're IBS-C, then that means you have a problem with constipation. How do you know that the tea is not contributing to your C?

Because I've gone weeks without drinking tea and gone weeks with drinking tea and there is no different.
Trial and error is the only way I know what works with my IBS and what doesn't.

Hi Beaglelover, I can't drink black, green or oolong tea because of the acid, and caffeine they contain. I miss them, but not the suffering they caused. I drink a lot of herbal tea which does not contain tanins, or caffeine. Try Peppermint, fennel, ginger, and chamomile teas they are great digestive teas. They help either with IBS-C or IBS-D. Good luck Cloudygirl
