I am IBS-A, but mostly D. I have been taking the Pepto tablets and they seem to help, but if I take too many of them, it doesn't take long til I become C, but I usually have to take 4-5 caplets before my D will even begin to calm down. I have not tried Imodium. I have tried the Kopectate caplets and got severe cramping from them, so I am hesitant to take anything but Pepto. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Most people on this board tolerate imodium really well. It was a complete lifesaver for me a few years ago. Start with half a tablet. If you see little or no difference try a whole one. They're extremely handy for times like parties, weddings, or any other occasion you can't get stuck with D.

I love Immodium. I would def. start off slow though. I found I had absolutely no cramping whatsoever from it. Feel better!

...if you start at half a tablet, you should be fine. If you want to take a tiny amount, perhaps if you want to take it every morning as a preventative, then you can get the drug (loperamide) in liquid form on rx.

I have used immodium in the past and found it helpful. Pepto tends to make my pooh turn black, and while I know it's not harmful, it just seems weird to me, so I avoid it. I also use malox anti gas for gas and reflux. Good OTC meds. Hope this helps.

I am IBS-A, I take loperamide pills (no-name immodium) and simethicone (for gas) and presciption ranitidine (acid controller) on a regular basis. I take immodium pills if I am going out anywhere as they tend to make me "feel safe". I used to take pepto bismol tablets before I discovered it was okay for me to take immodium more regularly (I was afraid of over-using it). I find that the immodium works better for me and you don't need as much as the pepto to feel better. Hope this helps a bit! Take Care

Try Imodium. There's nothing like it. You'll never go back.
