I have lost weight due to the fact that everytime I eat I feel sick - it is like I do not even want to eat - I have started drinking hot tea during and after I eat - I hope it works!

Anyone have this same problem - what to do????????

I *had* the same problem, and I'll be totally honest - for me it was very much an anxiety thing, although I didn't *feel* anxious, I just felt sick and not like eating. The only thing that truly helped was going on an anti-anxiety medication. But that's just my experience.

What helped a little before I went on lexapro was forcing myself to eat a little something - even if it was just a couple crackers - every hour. Yes, that often. I also ate a lot of ginger - ginger tea, ginger chews, sometimes just candied ginger. Ginger altoids would probably even work. It seemed to settle things down, and eating actual meals wasn't so bad anymore.

Good luck!

I often don't feel like eating either, and I agree with Casey that ginger really helps me with this problem.

I get the same thing. I get hungry-nausea, and then after I eat I get full-nausea. It can last for weeks at a time. I've dropped a kilo and a half in the last fortnight, because I'm away from home and my usual safety foods aren't available here!

I find sucking on peppermints helps, and eating plain things like crackers. The peppermints help clear other tastes out of my mouth, and the sugar helps keep me going a bit when I can't bring myself to eat proper food.
I also rely on ginger beer a lot... but be careful of the carbonation in it.

Don't know if it's available in New Zealand or the USA but over here you can get ginger beer cordial which tastes like the real thing, is made from real ginger syrup and has no carbonation so no gas! I love the stuff.

I get nauseous if I don't eat on time. I recommend you eat small portions often -- even when you don't feel like it. If you haven't already done so, please switch to organic food. I found conventional poultry and produce often made me nauseous when I ate it. You never know what is in conventional food or whether it is genetically modified.

Rather than drinking hot tea, may I suggest just boiled water? Aside from being incredibly cheap(!), it's extremely soothing. Before I discovered Heather's diet, I used to drink boiled water with every meal - during and after the meal -- and I found it really helped sooth my stomach and enabled me to tolerate the food better.

then eat a small amount often.. I aim for 6 small meals a day and have no issues, when I do fewer unless its going ot bed early and skipping that "second dinner" as DH calls it,I feel better and the nausea and pain don't get there with each meal...

I eat in the AM.. then with both my breaks at work, and on my lunch, and after work, and dinner.. so it =6 meals, but some of them are tiny- I aim for about 200 calories each, with 2-3 that are double that or that average over the day...

I was just put on effexor 2x per day - maybe I am more anxious than I think. I have been trying heather's diet pretty much and still feel the same - always lousy! I was taking Miralax 2x eacah day but have cut down to once per day - I hope that is enough - I am also taking before every meal a librax (once per meal). I wish I could just enjoy eating - I can not afford to lose weight and have lost 7 pounds - help!!!!!!!!

Give me some suggestions on what you would suggest for a soluble fiber supplement. I usually eat oatmeal which is a soluble - anything else? I have a hard time figuring out what is good (exactly what SFS entails) and what is not???

Thanks for your help!

We can all relate to some degree. Food loses its appeal all together when you suffer with every meal! I begin each meal with SFS and digestive enzymes. Keeps me almost normal as long as I keep a handle on the stress.

I notice you take Librax. I do also 30 to 60 mins before each meal. I've noticed at time's after I take one I get alittle sick at the tummy .But after I eat it goes away.
You know Librax is a gut tranzlier & it as a small among of xanax in it. I use to take Xanax & my system got worst!
So I took myself off that number. But the librax (gen) brand is the only thing so far that as help with the D. Other then Immodium. I only drink warm or room temp. drinks. Good luck!

Do you mind me asking what brand of digestive enzymes you take? How's the probiotic going?

I hate to tell you this, but from my own miserable experience, you can't just partially follow Heather's diet. If you don't follow Heather's diet on a full-time basis, you will get sick.

If I stray even one millimetre away from the diet, I can get an IBS attack. However, as long as I follow all the rules of the diet, I am pain free and fine.

One of the key things is to switch to organic food. I can't stress this enough in my postings. I don't think the average person on this message board appreciates how sensitive their gut can be and how tainted our regular food supply is. Conventional food contains all sorts of things that can trigger IBS attacks.

Another key element is to stay away from prepared foods or anything containing additives. Lots of people on this board eat prepared foods (potato chips, etc.) and most of those people are still sick.

I feel great since I began following the rules of Heather's diet and switched to organic and stayed away (with just a few notable exceptions like additive-free babyfood and organic Earth Balance buttery spread) from prepared foods.

Prior to that, I had been sick with IBS attacks for 45 years!

I don't remember the brand of digestive enzymes, and forgot to look at home. I'll try to remember and get back to you on that. Probiotics are going fine I guess. I am going every day, sometimes twice a day, so that is improvement. Still dealing with incomplete feeling at times, but otherwise, I've been very satisfied! I will probably switch enzymes again before it's all over, because I'm taking a hard tablet now, and the earlier samples from Source Naturals were capsules. I noticed more improvement with the capsules. Hope this helps.

I take my supplement either in a soluble food (applesauce) or in tea or water.. and I also tend to take my first peppermint cap then too... then later I might take a second... but the big one is I start taking care of myself... and I get the morning jumpstarted because my tummy is empty then.. once I have that buffer, I can start eating and keep at it in small amounts all day long...

Some of the posts read metamucil or acacia (I take neither of those) and then you indicated actual soft food (applesauce). I am real confused! Also what are some brand names for soluble fiber supplements in pill form????

I tend to be more C and that is where the miralax I hope is working. My only problem (somewhat of a big one) is that I feel sick and cramping/gassy after I eat (and it does not matter what). The librax has not helped thus far but I will try drinking just hot water during and after my meal - I will try anything. I hope the effexor works eventually too!! I have only been on that a few weeks. any other suggestions???????

Thanks

Hmmmm... maybe ginger also helps because it is known to increase appetite? maybe getting more hungry and needing something in your belly overran the anxiety?
just speculating... I love ginger! It seems to help things move through me in a gentle way, relieves my trapped gas I sometimes get, and best of all, it is so darn tasty!

...are meaning that that is what that person mixes their SFS with. The powders have to be mixed with either a liquid or some soft food to dissolve it before you take it.

I only take probiotics once a day, late in the afternoon on an empty stomach. I take the Digestive Enzymes (Futurebiotic brand) at the beginning of each meal. I may change the probiotic approach later, but right now, I'm doing a slow introduction. I am pretty "normal" now as far as daily elimination, but still battle the incomplete problem and still don't feel comfortable sometimes. For instance, feeling like I just HAVE to go, and nothing happens, or actually having some elimination, but feeling like I'm just not finished. I'm a lot better than I was a year ago, don't get me wrong, but stress is my biggest trigger, and my job is pretty hellish this time of year. 5-htp has helped me be less stressed and sleep better though, so I'm making progress, one supplement at a time.

I bought "super Digestaway" which I took a long time ago but I guess I should start taking it at the start of each of my meals again. I still get confused (sorry) about what exactly is a probiotic? I know it contains acidofolous (?) but isn't it like a digestive enzyme?

thanks for all your help - I really need it right now!

Probiotics replace your good gut flora. Live bacteria cultures. I'm using the Jarrow brand recommended here. You can google a search for probiotics and get tons of on-line options to order!! I am out in the country too, but did find a health food store within 25 miles that carries quality brands.

I just went into Yahoo and did a search on probiotics - but was a bit scared when reading that probiotics are to aid in bacteria and digestion but tend to contain dairy in them.

Maybe not the pills - and maybe I did not read it all correctly but acidopholous sounds similar.

any feeback???
