Or one of each, like with the spaghetti?

Hi. I have IBS-C, also. I take a probiotic (Bifidopholus Flora Force) twice a day (2 in AM and 2 in PM). It took my nausea away to a great degree. Also, not a quick food, but, I make fresh ginger tea with honey quite often, not only for queasiness, but for upset stomach, too. And/or Ginger Chews. Also, believe it or not!!!! (and it IS in Heather's IBS book) Catnip tea (fresh dried tea leaves - Whole Foods Market). It helps with a nausea, insomnia, tension, stomach pain, etc. etc. Hope you feel better, too.

Hey,

I also love baked sweet potatoes...I eat them with sauteed tofu or tempeh and something green like chard or spinach. Soup is always a good bet too, and requires almost no preparation. I'm C too, and when I get nausea or pain, I find the bananas go down really well...in the morning, I like to slice them over cereal and unsweetened soymilk. Experiment with grains like polenta and quinoa, which are healthy, quick, and easy to cook. Another lifesaver for me is Wildwood soy yogurt, which is cultured so that it has all the healthy bacteria that helps your tummy, and comes in the little to-go containers, or the big tubs. Also, like others said, when nothing else sounds good, peanut butter always goes down smooth for me, as long as I eat it on bread or crackers.

Feel better soon!

Hi Shelby. I'd be too full if I ate a sandwich and a potato. I'm trying not to eat so much bread...but I need some IF to go along with the potato to be a full, complete lunch. Or a spread for the tater.

It surprises me whenever I hear C people eating Bananas for some reason. I always think they constipate...brainwashed from the BRAT philosophy!

What do you eat with your polenta and quinoa for a quick lunch?

Thanks!

Hmmm...I've heard others say that bananas constipate them, but they are so gentle on my tummy, and I've never had a problem with them...what is the BRAT philosophy?

My favorite soups are Amy's canned black bean, lentil vegetable, or split pea. I also like the Imagine Organic soups, which have "creamy" varieties like cream of mushroom and tomato, but are dairy free (they use soymilk instead!)

Polenta is awesome served with hot tomato sauce, and melted soy cheese on top, and, if you can tolerate it, a small side salad or some grilled veggies. I usually stirfry some tofu and veggies to go with my quinoa, but you can eat it plain, or with just the veggies, because unlike most grains, it is a complete protein! I also forgot to mention that black beans and rice, plus some veggies of your choice, salsa, or a little avocado are also great for when you want something warm and filling, and veggie burger sandwiches are excellent when you want something you can eat with your hands.

Hope that helps!

Can I ask what kind of veggies you recommend for the quinoa and polenta? Do you make your own polenta or use the tube kind (which has citric acid in it)?

You don't get gassy from the bean, lentil or pea soups? Or the soy based Imagine?

The BRAT philosophy is that you should eat bananas, rice, applesauce and toast to help diarrhea!

Thanks again for posting!

Hey Beth,

I love to put Earth Balance vegan buttery spread on my sweet potatoes (it tastes just like butter!) and if I'm in the mood, I'll sprinkle a little cinnamon on it.

I often eat salads with my sweet potatoes, but many people can't tolerate them...I suggest some kind of grilled lean protein (like tofu or chicken) and something leafy green, which you can cook or puree if you like.

Hope that helps!
