Hi everyone.I'm new to posting on this board but I've been reading it since I was diagnosed with IBS-D last September and its been really helpful. I live overseas and I'm flying back to the UK in 3 days time and I'm terrified!! I'm not scared of flying at all in fact I like it but I'm excited about the trip home and seeing all my family and thats giving me cramps in my stomach already and I'm worried those cramps will lead to D !! I had a one hour flight a month ago and spent it having agonising cramps which would have been worse if my husband hadn't been there keeping me cal. The thing is he's not coming with me this time!!! Its an 8 hour flight and I would really like some advice as to what i can do maybe the day before to prepare. My IBS isn't that bad and I've only had D maybe 8 times since my diagnosis and its always been after a high fat or rich meal which I try to now avoid. Its the cramps that hurt more and thats when I panic about having D, it's the vicious circle element that I hate!!! Anyway any advice would be much appreciated!!

Take imodium the morning you go. It should prevent any D attacks. You might want to consider taking a thermos of peppermint tea to keep your tummy settled. Plus, if there's meals on the flight, prepare for the worst and pack your own. Take lots of safe snacks with you in case you can't eat the meal provided.

If you're worried about the food just don't eat it. I always bring my own safe food with me and it's just great for peace of mind too to know that you're food is definitely safe instead of taking a gamble with theirs. And I agree too that you should take some Immodium before you leave so you can relax knowing that will take care of the D and take more with you just in case. I also always just try to sleep on the plane and be conscious for the least amount of time. Good luck to you and have fun!!
