Okay, I'm new here, and so far feel like there's finally hope out there. Yay!!!
Well, I'm confused about whole grain versus whole wheat. Same thing, if not, is whole grain 'safe'?
Thanks!

Welcome to the boards! As for your question...I am slightly new here too so not totally sure of the answer. I was thinking maybe the whole wheat comes from the whole grains being ground....either way being they are the same. And if I am wrong hopefully someone else will come along and put in their two cents!
Again...welcome and good luck! Carrie

...in that wholewheat usually refers to products with wholewheat flour in it (which has of course been ground). But it's also wheat not any other grain!
Either are sources of IF so should be eaten with caution - NB. you can NOT use wholewheat/wholegrain bread as a good starter for a meal. You'd need some white bread first!

Thanks so much! I noticed that General Mills cereal is now all whole grain and that's why I was wondering.
Thanks again.

...ah, but it's not. If you read the fine print every product contains SOME whole grain, but NOT necessarily all whole grain. Sneaky advertising huh?
Anyway, welcome to the board, the greatest place on the internet!
Whole grains, including whole wheat, are ESSENTIAL for our long term health. We just have to eat them more carefully than other people. Mixed with soluble fiber is a good way. I eat a 12 grain bread that is mostly just white flour, but has some good insoluble fiber in it too from the other 11 grains!! The General Mills cereals that are a blend of whole and non-whole grains are another good solution.
Does that make any sense at all??!! I'm so tired I can't tell!

Oh okay, yes sneaky.
My son (5) is just like me IBS-D, poor baby. And I'm trying to make both our lives liveable. We both suffer so much. So finding food he'll be interested in is well, interesting. (ie. hard)
What about that soy "ice cream"? Is that safe for him? Because he already LOVES that stuff
Thanks! Kat

..is ok, but you have to be careful because A: it's cold and B: it can be high in fat. But small amounts after a meal should be fine. If he's not doubling over with pain from the cold (which sometimes happens to me), then let him have it!
