Hi
I was wondering if someone could help me?

I have IBS type `C`.
I was never diagnosed with IBS, but I know it can only be IBS.

It is 1 1/5 years ago I first started to get these symptoms.
Before that I could do anything and eat anything without any side effects.

I have stopped exercising and have left my day job and started my own business and at that stage my brother died and it was quit dramatic and stressful for us, which could possible triggered the IBS.

I have gone to the doctors with pain in my lower left abdomen and done every test they can think of.
At that stage I was not aware there was something like IBS.

It cost me thousands of bucks and they said there is nothing wrong with me, I must just drink less soda and not drinking any headache pills and started exercising again... , but was not drinking any soda or taking any pills at all.

I have searched the Internet and the only thing that looks like my symptoms was IBS.
Then about a year later I went again to another doctor and asked him if it could be IBS, but I could see he did not really know what I`m talking about.

I have bought The First Year: IBS and eat as good as possible. Al my symptoms are much better now.
I`m also exercising quit regularly, about 3 hours a week and do rope jumping in the evening.

My problem is; about every 3-4 months I`ve got severe constipation for about a week and then after the week I start vomiting for about 12 hours ongoing in 20 minutes intervals. This always starts in the evening or early morning.
(It also started one day when I have eating too much cheese).

Do any of you have this vomiting problem and if so is there any way to prevent it?
My personal conclusion is that it started with the constipation problem and must get out somehow.

Before all the stress and emotional time, I was able to eat anything, from pies to eggs to anything without any problems. Drinks a lot of beer without any problem?

I have cut out diary products out of my diet and it also make a huge difference.
I have become a total health freak, but still have problems?

Hi and welcome,

Firstly, I would urge you to see another doctor and gain a diagnosis. Even when you are sure in yourself that you have IBS it is still important to have some tests etc to rule out the nasties.

It's good that you are adjusting your diet to make it IBS safe. That will really help.

Are you basing every meal, snack on a soluble fiber foundation?

Exercise really helps especially for constipation. Try to add a walk into your daily routine. Even if it's just around the block. Walking is particularly helpful if done after eating. Try to make sure you never sit or lie down after meals.

Are you taking a soluble fiber supplement? These really help. If you suffer from bloating though I'd avoid psyllium as this can make bloating worse. I like Benefiber, it works well.

Have you thought about some yoga, meditation, time to yourself to relieve stress? Anything that stresses the mind, stresses the body which can cause IBS to flare. So stress relief is very important. Also, there are plenty of yoga postures that help with nausea, constipation etc. You could check the yoga board for some info on that.

I have heard of people suffering the vomiting you describe and I know that if my IBS symptoms are really flaring I get horrible nausea. However, I still think you should try to find a doctor who can rule out any other problems for you.

Let us know how you go and feel free to ask any other questions you may have. This is the best place for it!
Good luck,
Kerrie

Welcome to the board! You said the first doctor did do some tests, what did he do? I agree that you need to rule out other problems.

I have IBS C and when I get backed up or REALLY stressed, I get very nauseas and occasionally throw up, but not to the extent that you are. Are you taking any medications? How long are you going between BMs?

Hi Michele
Thank you all for answering.

As far as I can remember they have done the following:

-Take urine tests.
-Take blood tests.
-Swallowed a Camera.
-Take Stool samples.
-Sonar.

And all this tests from different specialists.
They just give me a diet and tell me I must start excising.
Give me some medication that would last 2 weeks, and told me I would get better.

I have even seen a dietician.

I do not take any medication at all.
When I was a little boy, I have got some stomach problems from swimming in the dam and getting some of the water in.

After that it don't take much to trigger my vomiting if I feel a little bit nauseous.
But I was able to eat or drink anything.

Usually it is about 2 days or sometimes every day I have BMs.
When I get sick it is longer and it's almost like it slowing down the process.

Hope this is what you want to know?

Thank you so much.

Well it sounds like the diet is helping. I would add in a fiber supplement, I like fiber con and citrucel, and make sure your drinking lots of water. Ive been reading on the board a lot of stuff about aloevera, never tried it myself but maybe check that out! Good Luck!

Someone in the Crohn's/Colitis forum was just describing similar symptoms. Since I do not yet know what ails me, I have been doing a lot of research about general digestive problems. From what I've found, pain in your lower left abdomen could indicate diverticulosis or diverticulitis. You can search WebMD or DiscoveryHealth for more info on symptoms. My grandpa has one of these diseases and has similar problems that you describe. When he is C he usually has an intestinal blockage accompanied by feeling quite ill. Once D and vomiting start, the blockage has usually passed. For him, it is quite serious and has had surgery for the blockages. It varies from person to person. Diverticulosis and IBS have similar symptoms. Diverticulitis is more severe because it can be a result of an infection. Definitely talk to your doctor.

Hope this helps!

Hi

I'm don't know anything about Crohn's/Colitis, but will take a look at it, thank you.

I have read a few things about it, fever and chills, but does not get that, could it still be Crohn's of I don't have these chills and fevers?

Thank you!

I wish I knew. I am in and out of doctors' offices trying to figure out my problems. This is just one of the things I came across. Ask the Crohn's board- the moderator is really helpful! Sorry I couldn't help more!

I have seen a good Gastroenterologist and he asked me a lot of questions and check me out and said I have IBS. I didn't show him that I know anything about IBS and was relieve to finally been diagnosed with something.

I've gone through another 12 hours vomiting a few days ago.

I have start walking on the treadmill and it is doing me great. I'm exercising and am now starting to use a sports nutrition, but want to know if it will affect my IBS.
On the Container it says it contains the following:
=Long Chain Glucose Polymers (a Complex Carbohydrate)
=Small amount of Pure Crystalline Fructose.
=Citric Acid.
=Potassium Phosphate.
=Vitamin C
=Riboflavin
=Biotin
=Chromium Picolinate

Here is the link to the manufacturer's site:
http://www.usn.co.za/products/endurance/carbo_fuel.htm

I have looked everywhere but could not find any info regarding sports nutrition?

Thank you so much.

The only thing I could think of is that if you have GERDS, the citirc acid could aggravate that. Doesn't sound too bad otherwise.
