I've always loved baked beans, especially the maple ones. I usually eat them from a can, Heinz Quebec maple. It has no meat, no dairy, and for some odd reason, it doesn't trigger my IBS (or whatever it is that I have).

In fact, since I'm a 'C', it's helped me have an almost perfect BM every day, around the same time, too!

I eat half a can, or more, depending on my mood, once a day, or spread into two meals through the day. I don't even have any soluble fiber before! Sometimes, I get a bit of cramping, or a heavy acidic feeling in my stomach, but other than that, I haven't had any adverse effects.

Can anybody explain this? I'm not complaining though!

Baked Beans are a great source of insoluble fiber so I can see why it helps you go!! I eat beans often, although I do get the usual gas, but I think even non-ibs people get gas sometimes from beans! I say eat all you want and don't question a good thing!!

search the board for info on beans and gas- Heather did the chemical stuff for us... the protein that causes gas, if ingested regularly is something our bodies can adjust to, I eat beans of some sort (hummus, "refried", chili, and a variety of other things I do with them) all the time, at least 3-4 times a week often 2+ times/day... and never have a problem... but thats me.. its a great source of vegetable and protein matter.. and the inside of the bean is soluble, its the skin that is insoluble, so they are a mix, for some with d there is too much insoluble, its ok with my A and I can see it help regulate a C'er too...

Do you need to take beano or anything with it? I didn't realize hummus was beans. I was planning on experimenting with this for lunch and now I'm scared. I didn't know chickpeas were beans. I am such a dork!

I don't take a beano or anything...and most people do fine with chickpeas.

Good luck!

I also eat the maple baked beans but I slice a tofu dog in with it and it's a great combo. Never bothers me either.

Beth, chickpeas are legumes, not beans. But I think they produce just as much gas.

I LOVE chick peas!! I eat them in stir fries, in pasta salads and love hummus!! They do produce some gas but not as much as regular beans for me! They are a great source of insoluble fiber!
