I have heard that too much stress can upset the IBS?? I am thinking this may be the reason for the couple of days with my upset stomach....I am spose to keep the stress levels down for my CFS but am having a bad time with work, the government...all of these things are making me very stressed at the moment!! Is there anything that I can do to relax and keep the stress levels down??? A

The answers I am going to give you may seem very simple, but they do really help me when I'm stressed. Listening to music, watching a funny movie, reading, doing one of your hobbies, practicing yoga, and exercising all help. Also, try to get at least eight hours of sleep each night. Sometimes when I don't get enough sleep, it's like the world is caving in on me. Sleep helps you feel like you can accomplish more and it makes things less overwhelming. Furthermore, when you're really feeling stressed, take three deep breaths. Breath in slowly through your nose, hold it for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. I hope this helps.

Thanks...I'm going to give them a try! There not simple to me...when I get stressed I start feeling sick...and then my bowel goes mad and I get really tired.....and I normally just sit there until it goes away or drives me mad....so will really try to do some of the things that you have mentioned.... Cheers, A

I like to do crosswords in stress crises. I can take them to work in my handbag and they help clear my mind and focus me a bit. And if I put enough work guff around them it can look a bit like I'm working! ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) It may not help for you, but the Woman's Weekly big crossword is a godsend for me!

Stres and IBS are definately interchangable. IBS can cause stress and stress can cause IBS. Spend 10 minutes every morning, afternoon and evening taking breaks. I don't know what works for you every one unwinds differently. For me painting or working on my scrap books does the trick. Close your eyes and listen to music or a book on tape. Read. Whatever. If you do something for yourself three times a day it will help your IBS alot! Chany
