I've been on the IBS diet for about 3 months and i can't believe the change! But I have a couple problems. I am about 20 pounds underwieght and no matter how much I eat I can't seem to gain anything! Also, i do a lot of camping and long distance snowshoeing in the winter, in order to get the 5000-6000 calories a day need for this activity one traditionally has to eat very high amounts of fat. i really don't want to give up this sport I enjoy so much just because I can't consume enough calories to survive. any suggestions?

on the daily front- high calorie is not always high fat- look at the breads and things here.. and when I was running marathons I was actually eating closer to this diet then I am now- carbs are high in caloric index- things like pasta, etc.. but I ate large amounts of them- high protein high carb bars might work.. luna bars will help, but they aren't high enough in carb count for you unless your eating a ton of them... some of the gatorade type things might work too, and they are high carb due to sugar content (avoid anything sugar free)
Good luck...

I have a similar issue, not that I need to gain weight but I have to ingest a lot of fuel in winter to keep going through the snow. Before the IBS diet I ate trail mix, snickers bars etc when working. This year I plan on doing a lot of baked things (think along the lines of fruitcake- no j/k) anyway I was going to make "trail mix" cookies and I will post the recipe when I figure it out. More importantly though is this, you can have 20-25% fat according to your calories but if you eat a lot of calories that is a lot of fat. Does that make sense? If you ate 5000 calories you could fit in 125 grams of fat and be okay. I hope this helps.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Can do. I'll work on it when the snow flies!
