I'm a bit confused. On this web site, I read where it's best to stay away from wheat products, but elsewhere on this site, it says, it's good to eat whole wheat.

This site also contradicts some professional web sites as well. Can someone clear this up for me?
Thanks

Hi Dennis! Welcome!

Where on the website does it say that it's good to eat whole wheat, that it's confusing you? Just curious.

Generally speaking, the premise of the diet is to eat a diet high in soluble fiber, but you still have to eat INsoluble fiber foods for good health - you just eat them with a healthy "cushion" of soluble first. Following those guidelines, whole wheat IS safe to eat, but since it's insoluble fiber, it wouldn't be an acceptable or recommended primary "grain" for someone with IBS.

As for the so-called professionals... quite honestly, they don't know what they're talking about. Heather Van Vorous, the author of IBS: The First Year and Eating for IBS, and owner of this website, actually HAS IBS and knows what works, unlike all those "professionals". Her diet and supplement approach really works, and there are quite a lot of us to vouch for that. But if you'd like some scientific/medical studies to back that up, feel free to browse the IBS Research Library, which is updated often and packed full of all kinds of good information on IBS.

Hope this helps a little... and welcome to the boards!
