Hello, everyone, old friends and new!

I just wanted to let you know that I have now made it 10 whole months without an attack of IBS-D!! All hail Heather, the IBS goddess!!

For you newbies, I did it by following Heather's diet, including an SFS, and taking my prescription antispasmodic every day per my doctor's orders!

For all my old friends, if you're still struggling, first ask yourself the following questions:

1. Am I still drinking alcohol?
2. Am I still drinking coffee?
3. Am I still smoking cigarettes? (Yep, that's a trigger, too.)

If you can honestly answer yes to those, that's terrific! If not, you need to go look in the mirror and decide if the tradeoff is worth it. I'm serious. I would NOT be stable if I were still drinking and/or smoking, no matter how careful I was with diet and SFS. And just think of all the other health benefits!

Okay, the holidays are coming up, which will be a challenge, but with luck, I'll make it to Jan 9, 2005, which will mark ONE YEAR no IBS!

Hugs to everyone!

Dear LauraSue
Its so wonderful to hear of your progress with your IBS. It makes me sooo happy! I really hope this continues for the rest of your life. And I hope, ontop of that, that your migraines are fading away too.
A question - when you say you are stable - does that mean you have zero symptoms of ibs - you go to the toilet like a normal person and have none of that 'incomplete evacuation' feeling, or any tummy turning, bit of nausea, whatever? are 100% symptom free, or is it just that you are not getting traumatic attacks and can eat safely, enjoying it, like a normal person, as long as you don't step out of the bracket?
Thank you XXX Lots of love

congrats! you are my inspiration and I thought I was on my way there... until this latest attack- I dont' drink or have coffee- only rarely did either before.. never smoked.. but its the meds I needed for my arthritis that did me in until they switched me to celebrex yesterday.. hopefully that won't have belly side effects and when the others work their way out of my system I'll be ok again.

I know you will continue to stay on track and make it the full year!

I wish I could balance myself out, tired of it all.

Hope your migraines are getting better along with the Fibro!!

Where can I go to read about the symptoms of Fibro? I think I might have a mild case of it. Your help would surely be appreciated! Thanks Honey!!

You'll make it a full year with your determination! I must say I cheat way too often because normally I can get away with it as long as I'm taking my equalactin and occasional immodium. Lately though I wonder if I'm normalizing b/c I don't have to go as much. There are days when I don't go at all. That's NEVER happened before.

Cheers to your success (but not with coffee or alcohol!:)

Sandy

Thanks, Dalia and everybody!

The only IBS symptoms I've had in the past 10 months were an episode or two of stomach pain from acid reflux (well, I guess that's not really IBS, it's GERD) and that little iffy feeling of grumbly rumblies that tells me my tummy is about to go bad and I should take an Imodium quick! That's what you mean by "tummy turning" isn't it? And I haven't even been feeling that lately!

I go to the bathroom like a regular normal person. It's amazing to me.

I am not getting the traumatic attacks I used to where I'd have to run to the bathroom repeatedly after dinner for looser and looser BM's until whoosh I just emptied out completely and then felt like roadkill all the next day.

I eat pretty well as long as I stay with chicken or fish, avoid fried foods and salads and rich desserts, and keep my portions small. I can enjoy small quantities of enjoyable food especially when my DH is cooking and I know exactly what's in it.

If I can do it, all of you can too! Hang in there!

Are you on an SFS and if so what kind and how much? Do you think it was essential to your stability.
Thanks, just starting out myself!

Laura, I'm SO SO SO SO happy for you! I remember how miserable you were when you first came on the board, and it's so wonderful that things have turned around for you like this. I agree, this diet gives you your life back. I seriously doubted I'd be able to hold down a job for a while and now I'm teaching full time without any problems... well, none bad enough to interfere with my job. Woohoo!! Life is good.

That is so great that you have been stable for so long. I do envy you. I know that if you can do it then I can to. I know that you will make it a year. You have made it this long you will make it. Some day I hope to say I have made it 10 months attack free. I am trying but its hard.

You are such an inspriation to me good luck through the holidays.

Take Care!!!

I'm so glad to read about your success.
I've been on Heather's diet for about six weeks and
Thank G-d only one attack - that was before I figured out that HFCS can hide in the craziest places.
Keep up the good work.
P.S. I think you need to add

Augie,

Yes, my SFS is absolutely essential to my stability. I happen to do well with Metamucil, although it bothers some people. I take the full dose of 3 rounded teaspoons a day, one before each meal, dissolved in 8 oz of water. I had to build up VERY slowly though. I started at 1/4 teaspoon every 4 days so that I could get used to the new gurgles and sensations in my tummy!! I'm a total wimp! But also very disciplined and by going so slowly I never had a set back.

I am so happy for you, I wish I was as strong, foodwise, I never knowingly cheat on the diet, but I can't tear myself away from alcohol! Maybe that has to do with being recently 21. So, since I know I do it to myself I don't dare complain when I am sick because of it, I think I will be ok this way for a little while atleast til I get a little older and all of the partying is outta my system!
