OK, I Have IBS C. Been on Heathers diet a month or more now. One week ago started taking Citrucel, how long does it usually take to tell if a certain fiber supplement is working?? I have only had one BM in the last week and I am really hurting. I have only been eating soluable fiber, Rice, oatmeal, did have a little baked fish the other night with my rice and bread. I have been trying to drink lots of water 8-12 glasses a day and I'm up to 8 Citrucel a day. Should I give it another week before I tried something else? Any suggestions?

Hi Michele, I have found that with IBS C you HAVE to incorporate insoluble fiber into your diet. The soluble fiber is just not enough for me. If I am careful about how I do it I can keep the bloating or pain it can cause to a minimum. Always have some soluble fiber with it. I cook veggies(I have to avoid onion though ) in a little broth (mushroom, vegetable or fat-free no MSG chicken broth) and sprinkle my Benefiber right in with this! You can have this over a little pasta. I personally find that rice makes my constipation worse, but that is just me. Also, you could try a little high fiber cereal with soy milk, mix some Benefiber right in with this. A word of caution though, do not try eating salads and raw veggies on an empty stomach! I used to do this all the time because I thought it was healthy. I couldn't figure out why I suffered so much afterwards, PAIN and GAS. I have not been brave enough to bring them back into my diet, maybe soon. Good Luck, artist

Thanks! I have tried the insoluable fiber too but I didn't seem to be getting any better and was still having a lot of pain. I thought if I stuck to "the basics" until I felt better it would help me to get feeling better sooner? I'll lay off the rice and go to pasta instead and try a little chicken tonight for dinner and see how that sits. I'm trying to be patient I just get a little frustrated(as I'm sure everyone does)when it seems like I'm doing eveything right and not feeling better. I had a TERRIBLE attack a little over a month ago, thats what prompted me to this web site and Heathers books. I don't think I have fully recovered from that yet. Thanks for all the support! It helps a lot to talk with people you really understand.
