Hi
Last week I took a few days off from work & found that for the most part I felt fine all day. For me, a trigger seems to be sitting down! I'm an accountant & have to sit at my desk all day. I don't even really get a break for lunch & what I've found is that, on my days off, I feel much better. It seems as though as long as I keep moving, I feel O.K. Does anyone else have this?
On my days off I'm always running around doing something or other. I don't really eat much during the day but if I do, even the bad things don't seem to affect me too much. In contrast, when I'm working, I can sit at my desk & eat FF saltines & still get gas & bloating. I'm just curious if anyone else is like me & what you might be doing about it.

I definitely feel better when moving around then when I sit all day long.. so I get up and stretch and move around.. I also feel better when I get exercise- even walking then when I don't....

Good luck

It sounds like your job might be very stressful if you don't get time to take lunch or breaks! If it is stress, of course you're going to feel better on your days off.

Try really hard to make time to take a lunch or break - even if it's just a walk around your office building. That way your body relaxes for a little bit before you're forced to go back to work. The exercise will also help your body digest better to avoid unwanted gas!

Hope this helps!

I thought about that too but my job is very low stress. I've been here about 20 years & no one really bothers me about too much. The reason I don't get out for lunch is becasue that's when I do my volunteer work (I work in animal rescue). I've also found that I feel crapy when I'm home at night sitting in front of the tube. I guess it's just something I'm going to have to learn to live with. It's not like I can get up & dance around my office for a half an hour or so! I was just wondering what the physical conection is.......why does movement help so much & is there a way I can simulate that when I'm sitting.

There was a thread a couple of months ago, kind of related to this, about tight clothing. If I'm wearing pants that press on my abdomen while I'm sitting, my stomach really starts to hurt, and I sometimes get attacks. And the clothes don't have to be butt-clinging tight, either ... Just enough to put pressure while I'm seated. And it does help to get up and walk around - I usually feel a lot better.

Hope this helps~

I got major gas/bloating when I was sitting in an office all day. Try to keep moving, even if it's just walking to and from the photocopier all day!

I agree. I wear pants with rubber around the waist but when I get bloated, they really stretch but I still get up and walk around.

I am wearing a size 10 now, and I always buy the pants that stretch with my body. Moving around is good for us it gets things moving and passing (LOL).

You will be fine, this is not a problem.

Yes sitting always makes me bloated. I have always known I had to have active jobs. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Although when I am really stable like this summer I can sit and as long as I eat slow and have tea I am fine. Good luck!

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

this will sound dumb, but I think it is because we are squishing up our stomach and intestines by sitting. when you are completely upright and walking around, your internal organs have more room and are free to relax.

i have your same problem. sitting at my desk, especially after lunch is difficult, so i always find something to do that does not involve sitting at my desk.

i am also more comfortable in meetings when i am standing. I just tell people that my lower back hurts when I am sitting too long, that way I don't have to explain that my intestines are hurting.
