I am stable now. I am taking two Tablespoons and two 2 teaspoons. So, I am taking one tablespoon along with one teaspoon every morning and the same amount every night. Would this be a cup, or...? What would this be considered measurement wise? It's not two and half tablespoons right? Thanks.

I don't have an answer to your question, but you could try measuring them the way you've been into a measuring cup, and see what it comes out to be.

I am taking Acacia with breakfast and dinner. I have been stable for about a month now. Plus, what has really been helping me is a large glass of V8 every night (I stated off with a small glass) and during the day I'll have a few almonds or half a pealed apple (I'm not always hungry during the day) For lunch I'll have soy yogurt and rice chex. A Luna Bar or something with safe insoluble fiber(maybe 1 or 2 grams insoluble)for a snack or a rice cake. Dinner, I'll have chicken and rice or any safe food with rice.

I still have problems with C and D the week before my period but other than that I am stable and fine. Good luck to you with becoming stable.

Are you using cooking measuring spoons or regular spoons? It makes a big difference.

Good Luck.

You can go here to get cooking conversions: http://www.onlineconversion.com/cooking_volume.htm

According to the site, 1 teaspoon equals 1/3 tablespoon. So for each dose, you're taking 1 1/3 tablespoons, making your total daily dosage 2 2/3 tablespoons!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I'm always excited when I hear that someone is actually stable! A big, big accomplishment! If I remember correctly, you are IBS-A?
Questions, I thought almonds (nuts)were a trigger food in Heather's book.
Do you eat your apple raw?
With your Luna Bar you said you had it with safe insoluble fiber. What is an example of a safe insoluble?
What type of rice do you eat for dinner? Brown, Jasmine, White Basamati?
Thanks so much. I am so anxious to try and get stability of any level. Looks like it's time to trade in the Citricel for Acacia!

brown rice is BAD! Sorry for interrupting but I thought I would give my tuppence worth too..

I am too am stable now, (without SFS ) by sticking to the diet, listening to my body, eating oatmeal and banana for breakfast, lunch is rice and vegetables or a chicken sandwich and dinner is rice/pasta with chicken or fish or turkey and veggies. I also can eat candy, pretzels etc and even went out for a fancy meal at the weekend. I don't feel deprived and have a lot more energy than I can remember having for years.

It really is just a question of sticking with the diet and figuring out what works for you, we are all different and can tolerate different things, the best advice I could give (which I often give on these boards) is to keep a food diary, that way you can write down what you eat and if/when you feel yuck you can figure out what might have caused it.

Best of luck with stabilising,

Sinead

Yes, I am an IBS-A. I do eat the apple raw and pealed (with no problems, after taking my soluble fiber). Almonds in moderation are fine for me (just five). I feel like they help me move things along in a safe way (no D).

Safe soluble fiber would be something like a Luna Bar (it contains some insoluble fiber) from what a lot of the girls on the website said they don't bother them either. Safe insolubles are when you puree, mash, mush and peal you fruit or veggies, that will make the insolubes safer. You would eat these insolubles with the safe foods as well, such as rice, bananas, toast and apple sause.

I eat white rice, but brown rice is the safest. Good luck!

You don't do any SFS? I thought that everyone had to do an SFS. Do you have to take any meds for stability?
As far as brown rice being bad, what type of rice do you suggest? White basamiti or white jasmine?
Thanks. I love hearing from people who are stable. It gives me some hope!
Do you take an antidepressant or any other meds to help?

I take citalopram (antidepressant) and am careful with what I eat (i don't cheat at all on Heather's diet) I don't let my tummy get too empty and I only eat solubles on an empty stomach, I eat fish or chicken and vegetables every day, get lots of exercise and drink lots of water. I keep peppermint capsules to hand for cramps. I was on an antispasmodic but it didn't give me any relief at all.

At the start to stabilise I had to do the "what you can eat when you can't eat anything" for quite a while and I got fed up too these are links to my posts from 10 weeks ago. These are links to early posts of mine to give you an idea of where I was back then..How I started out and
Getting better It is hard going at the start but it really is worth it. I have pain predominant IBS-A. I am thinking of ordering SFS as I do suffer from stinky gas sometimes but so far so good for me.

Rice wise, either jasmine or basmati should be fine.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Maybe you shouldn't start an SFS if you are pretty stable already. Wouldn't want to mess up a good situation. Aren't you scared?

Absolutely not, that stuff hurts! All that sugar/sweetener and gas going in has to come out. I have had none since I was diagnosed as I knew it was definitely one of my triggers, especially on an empty stomach.

I am not scared about starting an SFS, I just want to stop the excess gas,. Also I am a bad mentor, I ate some french fries on an empty stomach yesterday and have some cramping today, (first time in 8 weeks). However, I know why I have it and I am not letting it get me down. This is my first real cheat ever and it has really made me realise my boundaries.

RE the SFS I am concerned that I'm not getting enough fibre into me. I'll let you know if/when I start one and how it goes.

If that's your first cheat, wow, your'e good. As you see I am still drinking that one stinken can of pop every evening! And I think you are a great mentor! You have already helped me with your experiences. What SFS are you going to try? The acacia? I'm thinking of switching from Citricel to the acacia as it seems to be a popular choice on the boards. Let me know how you do.
Do you do digestive enzymes? Those seem to be popular too, as are probiotics, especially Jarrow brand. I'm trying both of these products, but don't notice a big difference, so may be just wasting money.

Yes, I am thinking of the acacia, if it works as well as the rest of Heather's diet it has to be good.
Now get rid of that can of pop and back onto the road to recovery!

Wow, didn't realize you were on the site now too! I if all of you can give up the soda, perhaps I can do it too. I don't know what else to drink though. I am sick of fennel and chamomille sp? tea all day and water too. I need something to replace it with.

Can the soluble fiber you take before the apple be an SFS or a soluble food? Does one source of soluble fiber work better than the other?

The apple is the soluble fiber and the sfs is the soluble fiber suppliment.

It is best to have the source, the apple (I would think) but I am not positive. From what I am told they work the same way and it does with me.
