Hi Chany,
The doc did tell me to get up and do something when I can't sleep. I think I'll keep a book on my bedside table and read it when I can't sleep. Or maybe get a cup of tea like you do.
It's actually surprising me how many other people have insomnia. Glad I'm not totally alone.

I ahve heard about Ambien. I think I will ask about it. I'm beginning to wonder if my body is just too sensitive to sleep aids though. I might check out the herbal way and have valerian or something.

Hi Casey,
Not sleeping does suck. I haven't had any more IBS trouble so I know that the sleeping pill was definitely the culprit. I swore I'd never take another one.
I hope you're doing well? Other than this sleep nonsense, I'm still doing great.

Hi Heather,
Hey maybe you do have a sleep disorder too. I hear that people that have had mono can sometimes develop some lasting results such as chronic fatigue syndrome. Not saying you have that, but you might have something? I doubt you're "lazy". I've been told that too. Now I know it's not that at all.
What sleeping pill do you take? Good luck on Tuesday and let me know what happens.

Tina,
I have to say that the hypnotherapy CDs have helped a lot with my sleep troubles. They really help me to fall asleep. My new problem, though, seems to be staying asleep. I often have problems falling back asleep after my middle-night potty break.
Here are the things I use to fall asleep, though: -hypnotherapy program. At least half the time, I'll fall asleep before the session is over.
-OTC sleep aid (Unisom). This stuff makes me super drowsy, so I take it very early--like 8 or 8:30 to get up at 6:00 a.m. If I take it later, I feel completely wrung out in the morning. Sometimes I just take half of one, and then the wrung out feeling is not as severe. (And I'm not a small person--I'm 5'9', 150 lbs. If you are petite, consider taking only half!)
-prescription sleep aid (sonata). Ambien makes me sick. Even though fewer than 1% of people in the studies had that side effect, I feel very dizzy and nauseated when I wake up in the morning. What can I say? I'm an anomaly. Most people love ambien, so don't let my experience hinder you. As for sonata, it works great. The only bad thing is that it only stays in your system for four hours, so sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night when it wears off.
The thing that makes me crazy is that I slept like a champ all summer, when I had no job to worry about. Now, I can't even sleep in on the weekend. I'm seriously considering going to the doc so I can hopefully get a sleep study done on me,too. We'll see.

I hope you get a good night sleep soon. I actualy have had a pretty good week of sleepfull nights but I think that has to do with the fact that I'm substituting for the kindergarten teacher at my kids' school. (20 children and over half of them are boys!) I think I discovered the cure to insomnia! Hope you have a good night! Chany

Tina,
I finally made an appointment with a sleep specialist. Not falling asleep until about five this morning finally put me over the edge.
I was just curious what the end result of your stuff was. Did you go to the neurologist? How are you sleeping now?

Christine,
Wow, I was surprised to see this thread pop up, it's been a long time!
I am still waiting to get a call for an appt. for my MRI. I have called the office once now. I'll have to call back again. Maybe it just takes a long time to get an MRI appt.
So I am trying to ride out this terrible insomnia thing. He gave me a prescription for a sleeping pill but it made my IBS terrible the next morning. I haven't taken another one since. I've been taking valerian to help me sleep but it's not super effective.
Hopefully you'll be able to get to the bottom of things. The neurologist says that there's several possible causes for insomnia. Mine is unclear and not due to psychological factors. Apparently that is way easier to treat than this mysterious brain sleep-malfunction.
Best of luck and I hope you sleep well tonight!!! I need a good night's rest as well.
