Hiya... I keep seeing that we should eat bananas and how many of you do...
Bananas give me uber heart burn... does this happen to anyone else?
Also, does anyone else get pretty bad heartburn right before a VERY bad flare up??
TIA

I can't eat them, either. They've always given me problems - sometimes heartburn, sometimes indigestion that lasts for days, sometimes D. I *can* eat banana bread, but straight-up bananas? No way.
However, I'm the oddball here. Glad I have company. Most people can eat bananas without any problems.

Same here. I tried to eat them in my oatmeal and ended up with indigestion and cramping all day. I use applesauce now, it's much better.
No bananas for me!

I can't eat them either... they make me C, no matter how ripe they are.

I can't eat bananas, but that's because they're a migraine trigger for me and have been for years. No clue then how'd they'd affect my IBS.

Bananas give me terrible gas even if it's just a little bit of bannana in my oatmeal. I wish I could eat them, though.

I could live on bananas and corn pops alone. Not the most balanced diet, but since I've been having problems for a few weeks, I decided to go back to my safe foods for a while and see if that turns things around.

Heartburn and IBS are seperate things.
I persoanlly can only eat bananas if they are just beginning to ripen...otherwise they give me heartburn too (thought I was the only one!) You may also have a problem with fructose...can you digest other fruits ok?
Have you been to a GI yet to rule out other problems such as ulcers, GERD, etc.? While you may have IBS and something else, it's always good to get it checked out to know for sure.
Hope I helped a bit...

I have actually had ulcers in the past... and I've never been checked for a fructose thing... but yeah, just about all fruit gives me heartburn then WAMMO ... I have IBS-D...
HOWEVER... for some reason I can stand strawberries... perhaps just becuase I ALWAYS have them with some form of biscuit or pancakes???

I eat a banana about daily. It has become one of my staple IBS foods.
