Hello Everyone, I am new here but have been reading Heather's great advice on the site and must of printed out about 40 pages of info..

I have IBS-D and its got worse over years. I am just sittin at my desk at home as I had to come off the train on the way to university as I was nearly sick due to taking Meberverine and had terrible diareah I had to pick up some peppermint tea and come straight home. This is the 2nd week off university due to my IBS...

I dont know where to start really I need some advise really cus I am scared I will have problems like this for ever and cant travel anywhere..

Sophia

Poor you! Get a SFS and get some Immodium! I found Heather's Acacia is the gentlest SFS and the nicest to take. I can't emphasize how important SFSs are.

Try taking one Immodium tablet every morning at breakfast before you leave the house. Doing that really helped me stabilise whilst commuting to London everyday!

Jump straight onto the diet. Cold turker is alot easier i the long run. ANd do the breaking the cycle diet for 3-5 days. It'd probably help to accept you're staying at home for the next few days so that you don't have to worry about carting loads of pure SF foods into Uni.

Good luck! You can beat this - I did!

...Mebeverine is obviously not agreeing with you, so you need to go back to your doctor and ask for something else! There's a lot of trial and error involved in finding the meds that work best for you - everyone with IBS is slightly different.

I'm not Linz but I can answer your question. A SFS= soluble fibre supplement such as Metamucil or Acacia available throught this site. Extra soluable fibre in the diet helps IBS greatly.

Welcome to the boards! I really can't add anything to Linz's excellent advice... I just wanted to say hello and welcome.

The diet outlined here on the site is truly a miracle... jump right in, do it to the letter (no cheats!), and give it a little time to work. You WILL feel better. I was in your shoes 7 or 8 months ago, and now I'm practically back to normal.

Good luck and feel better!

Welcome, Sophia,
I was in a very similar state 3 months ago, but following the advice and diet to the letter has made me feel SOOO much better. I'm amazed. I too was afraid of having to live life suffering. I'm sure you will feel better soon, just follow the diet very closely. It took my body about 1 1/2 weeks to feel significantly better. You'll get there!!!

Boiled rice, NOT spring rolls (fried), NOT prawn crackers (ditto). I usually have something like Kung Po King Prawn and leave some veggies.

I think she's right abotu the Mebeverine, it must not be the anti-spasmodic for you. BUT I have taken 4 in the UK, and I think it's just a matter of finding the right one so don't give up!
I take Celevac tablets now, that are chewable and they have helped a lot. I don't think they are anti-spasmodic but they are good. As well as being put on a low-dose anti-depressant for the anxiety I had about getting sick while I was travelling!
I also just wanted to say Hi and welcome to the boards! I agree with going on the "What to Eat when you can't eat anything" diet for a few days to get settled, too. And the immodium advice is good, too.
Good luck!
Steph
