Hi Everyone, Haven't had time to post in awhile, but have been keeping informed on you all by readying your posts....I went to the dr. this week for a 6-week check up with the GI. I wasn't real happy the first time around with him, but he seemed more understanding and willing to talk this time. Another bit of good news is that I seem to have approached a level of stability the last little bit.
This is what I'm doing. Don't know if it will be a help to anyone or not. By the way I'm IBS-d. 1. Before bed, I take 2 amitriptylene (10mg/tablet) 2. Drink a cup of Tummy Tea w/ 1tbs. of acacia before bedtime as well 3. First thing on getting up in the am, I take 2 of Heather's pepp. caps. 4. I, then work out for an hour and then drink a cup of Lemon Ginger tea with almost a full tbs of acacia. 5. Before lunch and supper I take 2 FiberCon for a total of 4/day. 6. If I'm going to eat out I take 2 digestive enzyme tablets before eating. My attacks usually hit me within the first couple hours in the morning; it's like my colon has a hard time 'waking up'. I've found if I do get the spasms that either immodium or Kaopectate seem to stop it. The cramps don't seem to be as bad as they used to be either.
I do watch what I eat and keep Heathers book as a guide, but don't follow it rigidly. Plus, I'm going to start the food/vitamin supplement called 'Reliv' fairly soon. I'm in the process of placing an order w/ Karen.
So there you have it. My GI said I didn't need to see him for a year and that a colonoscopy isn't necessary for another year or 2, unless my symptoms become intense again as they have been for the last year.
I really believe the SFS has helped me the most. However, I think what started my system towards achieving some stability was taking Imodium as a preventative for about 2 weeks until I had to quit due to a rash I developed. I think just those 2 weeks gave my gut a rest and helped it start to heal.
My GI told me that I would never be healed from this yukky IBS (so what else is new), but that if I could have more good days than bad, that would be a blessing. It's just a day at a time with this disease, isn't it? It makes me so thankful for every good morning I have and when the bad ones hit, I remember the good ones and know that they'll come back eventually. We're all in this thing together. You've all been such an encouragement to me as I read your posts and replies. Keep up the good work! Hopefully, I can begin posting again on a regular basis. God Speed, Janene

Glad you are stabilising Janene, it feels so good to be more normal doesn't it?
Keep up the good work, it is up to all of us to look after ourselves, and all the support you need to do that is right here.

Janene - there's hope, sweetie. The IBS I had at the onset and the IBS I have today are TOTALLY DIFFERENT. I had some really nasty symptoms. Over the years, I've had a lot of time to adjust, learn, readjust, make mistakes, and the whole nine yards. My IBS now is so under control that I hardly think about it. IT's a process and a journey. We're here for you. Consider us your own personal safety net.
