Does anyone here have ulcers along with your IBS? If so, can you explain what the symptoms are and how you relived them?? I have had the symptoms for the past month including vomiting. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. Any advice is appreciated! I am without insurance and need to just get by until I do get insurance. Thanks!!!

hello,
I had an ulcer about 4 years ago (while I was in college, not fun!) Anyway, it felt like a burning feeling in my stomach (note, that your stomach is actually pretty high up, like right below your breasts). I also had like a nawing hunger all the time. And most of the pain was awful in the morning on an empty stomach. Not that doctors are dumb, but for an ulcer they will tell you to eat a bland soft diet and to drink milk, but for an IBSer that won't work.
Keep your stomach getting a constant stream of food, so that it can "absorb" the acid. I snacked all day slowly on bread type items, like bread ,animal cookies (if your IBS can take those), saltine crackers, really any low fat type carbohydrate works.
I also made sure to drink a lot of water, and definitely no caffeine or spicy foods and no Peppermint tea, it will burn.
that's all I can think of. sometimes you do need a doctor though, to write a prescription for an acid reducer such as Prevacid, so that your stomach can fully heal.

Thanks for your response!! This helps me at least identify what i am feeling (possibly an ulcer) until I can get medical insurance.

I had an ulcer right before I was diagnosed with IBS-C. I was treated with heavy duty antibotics for 2 weeks about 3000mg/day plus Prevacid for 3 months. They say that 95% of ulcers are caused by the H. Pylori bacteria. that's why all the antibotics.
The Prevacid you can get over the counter...I think the over the counter dose is 75mg, but the doctor had me take 150mg per day. The prevacid and prilosec are similar. I think both are over the counter. Once my ulcer was healed, I was diagnosed with IBS-C, three months later..... No spice foods or coffee, sharp pain below the breast bone on the left side....everything bland.
