I have had IBS for almost 4 years now. I have read a lot of your postings on this site and I see how you help each other out. I had lost 20 lbs when my IBS-C was at it's worst 4 years ago. I have gone through all of the test. I'm trying to get back on track with my diet and I just recently bought Heather's book.
My question is if I am IBS-C than is a higher fiber diet better? Can I eat whole wheat breads and not white breads? I just started to read the book and this site, so I just had a couple of questions for now.

Hello and Welcome! I am a fellow IBS C person. I started the diet about 2 years ago and at first, I was confused and thought all insoluble fiber was bad. I avoided all insolubles and my C got so much worse! Use C people need to keep some insolubles in our diet, more so than the D people! Its all about the right combination for you. Insolubles are not the enemy, you just have to learn to be sure to have a soluble base first! When I'm stable, I can even eat a salad once or twice a week, as long as I have some bread or other soluble fiber first! Again, when I'm stable, I can have whole wheat bread as long as I'm having something soluble with it! Each person's tolerances are different, its kinda trial and error to see how much you can tolerate!

Thanks Michele! It has been trial and error for the last 4 years. Now that I have gained that 20 lbs back, I would like to lose it again. I have not been eating right for a while now, so it's time to get back on track. I'm going to read as fast as I can through this book, so I can start to feel a little better than I have been feeling. A little nauseous lately! Thanks again!

Just wanted to say "Thank You" for the support and the advise. I will visit back as often as I can. I read more of the book last night, so I'm getting the hang of it.
I've been C for the last two days, so I'm really trying to eat the right things so that I can go. I'm feeling OK otherwise though, so that is a good thing.
Thanks again! I hope everyone is having a good day today.

Welcome Dolphin! Michelle is right with the soluable fiber base, it just gives the tummy alittle extra cushion before trying to go through the harder stuff. I'm a D - but I know that enough soluable fiber is important for all of us. Meanwhile, the diet should be good if you're trying to loose some weight again - low fat and easier to digest. Glad you found us! Min

Hello & Welcome. As far as advice goes... I have the ibs/combination of C&D, but I'd say to stay with soluble fiber & be careful with the whole grain stuff. I've found that oatmeal, applesauce, jasmine rice, sweet potatoes, baked chips & genisoy soy crisps have all been great in helping me feel better. I've been following the diet for just over 2 months now and I can't stress how much I've improved during that time. Good luck & Take Care!!!
