Hi- i have been diagnosed with IBS since last February...i have followed Heather's book and have passed it on to others i have met with IBS.
I pretty much stick to the rules...except i had a hard time giving up the coffee.....i slowly added more rice milk and less coffee in my morning cup until now. Finally coffee free- i had bought a product called " ROMA " to replace the coffee with, hoping it would taste a lil like coffee.
Has anyone tried it? I can't do Rocamojo because i cannot tolerate soy (much to my chagrin!). " ROMA " is caffeine free and is made with Roasted Malt Barley, Roasted Barley, and Roasted Chicory.
Do you think the barley will upset me? I don't want to trigger another flare-up, but my ginsing tea is just not the same as a cup of joe in the morning!
Anyone have any input or advice before i put Roma to the test? here is the nutritional info

I would give it a shot! As far as I know, chicory and barley are both fine for people with IBS... I know the chicory, at least, is a common ingredient in a lot of the teas and other coffee substitutes (like Teecino) that some of us drink. I'd try it! And if it's good, let me know - I've seen it in the health food store, and wondered myself if it was worth a try.

NOT BAD!!! Taste's almost like coffee! I had it with some warmed rice milk. I just had to make it a little stronger than they suggest, Pretty yummy, though and no bad side effects! ! I will probably only have it once in a while (i am so scared of triggering a flareup! I have noticed that just because i can tolerate things one day, does not mean i can tolerate them on a daily basis), but it is worth getting! I would recommend it to fellow coffee craving IBS-sufferers! (Especially if you can't tolerate soy!)
