I recently read in a book about sleep disorders (of which I am a sufferer) that you can get your daily calcium by taking a couple of Tums. This book further advises to take your calcium in the evening, cause it has a slight soporific effect.
Might this be something that could be helpful to you?

I thought calcium was supposed to cause constipation, not diarrhea!! What are other people's experiences? I just bought calcium, and have IBS-D so your experience has me worried.

I've always heard that it causes C---and it certainly did in me! In fact, I've blamed those stupid little chocolate calcium chews for the start of my IBS-C.

it causes C in me thats for sure, but I'm IBS-A... I take it when I have the runs, figure its safe then, and try to get my calcium via luna bars and other things (soy milk/rice milk, ettc) at other times.

Hi,

I haven't found a calcium pill that agrees with me. They usually cause "C" for me and gas. I have found that tums doesn't seem to bother me.

I really need to take some prescription meds because I am 59 and need more calcium. I am having a hard time with those, too. Right now I have the nasal spray one but am afraid to use it because one of the side effects is headaches. UGH!

How about a combination cal/mag supplement? I understand that the mag is supposed to help offset the C effects of the cal and make it easier for the body to make use of it.

Thanks

There is a great calcium/magnesium supplement in liquid form that has been wonderful for me! It is by Lifeway, and I purchase it through Puritan's Pride. I usually throw-up the pills, and this combination has helped releive the C and has not caused D. I highly reocmmend it! I take it every morning with my Acacia.

Hi there!

You may want to try taking calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium together. The magnesium balances out the calcium...if you suffer IBS-C. If you're D...I am not sure what to say...

Hope you figure it out. When you do...let us know!

Good luck!

*hugs*

Thanks for all the replies on Calcium.
Yes the calcium
for sure causes me gas and has the D effect.
Using the mag. with it for balance doesn't help.
Any other suggestions of calcium sorces besides soy which I can not tolerated would be appreciated.
Thanks again

www.puritanspride.com is the website I order from. You can request a catalog and do a mail order as well. Do a search using the word orange and you will find the calcium/magnesium citrate supplement. I think it also has vitamin D in it, and I mix mine in juice, so I get the benefits of the vitamin C too. It is a fabulous suupplement!
