After reading some posts about anti-depressants I'm curious to know if anyone has noticable success from taking the med's.??? After reading some of the info. it makes since to me that it would help. I'm interested in hearing about any success stories.

I started Heather's Diet the end of March & that gave me IBS management success. I was so happy but still started to have unexplained anxiety attacks. I started Zoloft in July & now my IBS & anxiety are under control. I don't know if Zoloft alone would have helped my IBS.

Do you think the two are related?

I think anxiety can make IBS worse sometimes but I don't think it is the cause of IBS.

I can tell you definitely that anxiety has caused attacks for me, especially in public places. I am scared about the Zoloft but am looking forward to the lower anxiety and lower IBS attack frequency.

I was put on low-dose Amitryptaline (sp?) for IBS and it helped my symptoms. Then I got depressed and was put on another higher dose drug. V. helpful all round.

Don't be scared of Zoloft! I am on it, and it is helping me. Anxiety can definately bring on IBS attacks, and most people with IBS have anxiety about it! It's a viscous circle. That's why I think SSRI's help. I am only on week 6, but I am definately staying on it for awhile.

Hi,
My GI just put me on amitriptyline this week for IBS symptoms. I have to take 1 pill (10 mg) each night in hopes of stopping the spasms that occur the 1st couple of hours each morning. If you don't mind my asking, what were your symptoms and how did the amitriptyline help you? And also, do you remember how long it took before you noticed it made a difference?

Thanx, Janene

I am thinking that the Lexapro may also be another reason that I am not so C right now. Today was a great day, but,I have been taking the med like the Dr. prescribed, and eating a correct IBS diet. I hope I stay like this for a while, that would be great. good luck. gayla

It was a couple of weeks before I noticed it and it just helped generally with spasms and urgency mainly. I had every symptom going at that point! D, C, spasms, reflux, gas, bloating.......
