I made it all through my period with slightly loose stools, byt nothing else wrong.. and then the day it ended, I woke up with diahrea really bad this AM.. cramping, racing, etc.. about an hour before the alarm.. I also had to get up earlier then normal, so set the alarm, but it was set for the time I had been getting up the last few weeks anyway- just I always wake before the alarm and today it went off..

I don't know if it was coming in an hour earlier then normal to work (but I've done that before, I used to start at 5 AM, and now that I don't start till 8:30 I still wake up really early, so when they need someone to start earlier I always volunteer either for overtime or to get off earlier in the afteroon)...

or could it have been trying soy garden butter substitute in my potato for the first time last night??? or DH putting a few drops of Dave's insanity sauce in my curry for lunch- tasted wierd, but not having problems till the next morning seems to rule that out in my mind, though I could be wrong.. does anyone have any familiarity witht his- he had made me a wierd potato and rice curry (no veggies, no protein- I told him never again- tasted awful because it was so overcooked and he thought it was bland so instead of adding more of the appropriate spices he put insanity sauce in it) and then for dinner we had chicken on the grill (with spices I had had before) preceded by the potato I put a sprinkling of black pepper and my new soy garden stuff in... just a little of the soy garden at that.. I dont' even think it was 1/2 a teaspoon... I saw how high fat content the soy garden is and got worried...

could this just be the end of my period in which case what can I do to avoid it next month or could it be something I ate yesterday and should now avoid (wouldn't be upset at Daves insanity sauce being a no no- never would have put it in somehting of my own volition anyway)

It could have been period-related. A LOT of us have problems that time of month, no matter how careful we are, especially at first. Wonderful, huh? I also tend to have worse problems at the tail end to a few days afterwards than I do right at the start.

Or... it could have been any of the food triggers you mentioned. I know, that's the frustrating part of the process. All you can do is try the foods again sometime, and see if you still have the same reaction. I've had to do that a few times... I had a really bad attack a couple months ago that had me thinking I couldn't tolerate soy at all, but now I can eat it just fine - the attack was completely random.

Feel better soon, Amie!

Casey- thanks for the answer.. are super spicy foods a typical trigger for people though? just wondering if I can use my IBS to halt some of Bill's hot stuff.. I don't mind when I can still taste, but this stuff is xxx hot sauce he is adding to things- including his BBQ sauce- I had something else on my chicken last night..

You can *tell* him it's a trigger regardless. Honestly, I'm not sure. I know there's some people who can't handle the hot stuff, but I don't know if it's an IBS trigger or a reflux trigger. Personally, I've always been able to do "hot" just fine, although I wouldn't try it now, after avoiding it for the past 6 months. If it's been recently that he's started piling on the hot sauce, it could be bothering you.

he's always piled it on, but not that bad and I've avoided eating the worst of it, I don't mind heat, and can handle it, but I like to taste what its in/on... I don't like to just get burned....

I can't tolerate hot, spicy food or sauces at all! I'm not saying that's what definitely did it, but I would be careful eating spicy stuff in the future.

I know it's hard to avoid when someone puts it in your food - my boyfriend loves to put hot sauce in everything You know what I do - I just don't eat it!! This is somewhat easy for me since I do almost all of the cooking, but when he does occasionally make something, I won't touch it if it has any hot sauce on it. He knows I have "stomach issues" and just accepts the fact that I can't eat everything like I used to be able to.

Hope you feel better!

Bill is trying to be helpful- I work weekends, so he cooks on weekends since he has time off and is home all day, but he has been trying.. I don't understand his thought processes- he was afraid of setting me off so didn't put chicken or veggies in but used hot sauce... I am puttng a list of things I can and can't have on the fridge!
