1 cup course kasha - I used pretend soy meat that you crumble.
2 cup boiling water (salted)
1 large can mushrooms
2 egg whites (original calls for 1 egg)
1 large onion
4 tablespoon margarine
1 cup tiny bow ties, boiled and drained

Combine kasha and well beaten egg white in a heavy skillet. Place over medium fire on top of stove and stir constantly. When kasha is dried out and brown, put in a pot; add boiling water, and allow to boil for approximately 30 minutes, or until all the water has evaporated. Pot should be covered. Meanwhile, in another pan, saute the onion and mushrooms until a light brown. (I just sprayed with Pam). Mix the onion and mushroom mixture, the bow ties and kasha thoroughly.

I love kasha... its BUCKWHEAT.. I have a few boxes in the house.. was debating trying it.. but isn't it insoluble fiber? and it is nothing like the soy crumbles you mention using.. I was thinking of making Kasha varnishkes because it would be a neat way to eat kasha again since the insolubles would be offset by the pasta.. its the only hot cereal I've ever been able to eat without getting nauseaus fromt eh taste and texture for some reason...

then again- DH and I discovered leftover mashed potatoes double as yummy breakfast cereal- hot!

Hi Amie - When I used the soy crumble the other night I thought it would go perfect with the "bow tie" pasta. I personally don't have the buckwheat. I just thought it would be another easy yummy recipe to get out on the boards. I don't know if true buckwheat is an insoluable or not? I am sure someone else on here would know..if we put it out in question form. I am glad you like the buckwheat! Let me know what turns out.
