Well it's been a really really long time since I've been on these boards!!

Last night my brother came down with the stomach flu and was up the entire night throwing up and me being the paranoid person I am that HATES vomiting I started lysoling everything and washing my hands profusely.

My friend commented that I'm a "hypochondriac" and I thought to myself....there's only one place I can go where people will understand my phobia about puking.

So here I am.

I'm at work....have a bit of a headache and am going crazy worrying about catching this stupid stomach bug from my brother. I keep thinking that I feel symptoms coming on and then I don't....it's probably all in my head.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

Anyone have any tips on preventing the flu??

Nice to see you! I'm personally not an emetaphobe (sp?), but I know it can be an awful experience to get fight-or-flight when you see/hear someone throwing up.

I got a flu shot in September after being hospitalized with a flu-like bug last March for 3 days (with a NG tube, awful). I'm so glad I got a flu shot because I watched BF get sick in January and I was sure I'd get what he had, but I never did.

I think I owe it to the shot, because I doubt any super-resistance I'd have garnered after getting super-sick would have lasted until January!

Good luck and keep in touch!!

Good luck. I am awful about the stomach flu. I go running the other way if I know someone has it. I get it worse each time and this last time ended up in the hospital dehydrated.
One thing I found out about puking, it is easier with the help of gravity. I pull over a waste basket to the bed and it doesn't hurt as much as hugging the porcelain. AND I don't have to walk back to bed all weak and dizzy.

The flu is actually a respiratory bug, not a stomach bug. What we call the "stomach flu" would be from a virus that acts differently than the flu virus. The Norwalk virus is one that was in the media a while ago, causes vomiting and D really bad. So getting a flu shot will not prevent the "stomach flu" unfortunately. The best way to prevent it is just to stay far far away from it, and wash your hands a lot.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! Throwing up is the worst..

Hey Girlfriend!

Dang, it's good to see you back!

The flu, eh? You're right to wash your hands! And avoid any and all touching of anything ANYWHERE! Howard Hughes was right! No kidding, I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in my purse and use it throughout the day. I grab ahold of doors with my shirtsleeve and wipe the handle of the grocery cart with sanitizer wipes before I use it. When I shake someone's hand, I politely excuse myself to go to the bathroom so I can wash it afterwards. Where are the tissues?!

Hey, it works! I haven't had the flu in a hundred years.

Your friend is like my friend, Virginia, who won't even bother asking me how I'm doing, even though she knows I've been on medication for two weeks for my diverticulitis. Do you think she could just say, "are you feeling better?" OR "I'm sorry you're sick"? NOOOOOOOOOOO! It's like avoidance = getting rid of the issue altogether. Your friend calls you a hypochondriac so she doesn't have to deal with your illness. Nice.

You're not a hypochondriac, you're someone with IBS who's had ENOUGH!

Don't be such a stranger, ya heah?!

Well my brother is feeling better now and it's Saturday (he got sick on Thursday night) and nobody else in my house has caught it yet so I'm hoping that we're all in the clear but I'm still gonna be a little paranoid until the weekend is over.

Glad to be back again!!

I've just been super busy with work, traveling, writing, etc. but I'm trying to catch up on posts!!

My family thinks I'm crazy because I wash my hands so much. When I am around someone who is barfing I act exactly like you are now.

Here's hoping all the hand washing and lysoling works and you don't catch that nasty bug.
