ive had IBS for 5 years and am finally experiencing relief from my constipation thanks to my new doc, however, my stools are still sometimes difficult to pass and whenever I strain even a little it aggravates my prostate. I have a sensitive prostate and whenever this happens i experience the urge to urinate very frequently. If i have soft BMs it will stop. anything i can do? its not just straining to have BMs - i get this when i lift weights as well. thanks

Have you tried taking a soluble fiber supplement, like acacia or Benefiber? This should make the stool softer and easier to pass.

Or what about a stool softener? (Avoid the ones with laxatives!) I had to take these (Docusoft - short term only) when I had an anal fissure and they didn't aggravate my IBS symptoms.
