Hi, its me again, sorry I keep coming up with questions.Ive had more gas and bloating lately, I think since i started the fiber. Its benefiber, should I try a different one, I mean I dont have gas immediately after but I have had alot more, what should i do. Im only taking a very small dose, I was going to work up slowly but if this is causing gas at 1/2t then I dont want to go up. metamucil did cause gas but it seemed to bulk up my stools more than this.

I can't take Benefiber either. It's Guar Gum, be sure and watch for it in other foods you eat. Many people can't tolerate it as it has a laxative effect.

Benefiber causes gas and bloating in a lot of people - myself included. I switched temporarily and it was the first time that the gas was so bad that I thought my stomach was going to explode.

I went back to Citrucel and felt so much better.

My sister likes Citrucel best too. As I mentioned in a post yesterday, I can't tolerate guar gum or any of the other veg gums very well.

Honestly, I don't take any. I've found that it just makes matters worse for me.

Have you given any thought to Heather's acacia? I used to take Citrucel, but I wasn't focusing on the dosage and was only taking two capsules a day. Well, what do you expect, after all my GI just threw it at me and said "here, take this," without any advice as to how much or increasing it or anything, so I took one in the morning, one in the evening -- until Heather made me realize I wasn't taking nearly enough, and suggested I slowly increase it. Instead, I chose to order her acacia -- good choice -- and shortly AFTER I began the acacia I had a lot of gas and bloating, but I realized I wasn't measuring it accurately enough and had in fact begun increasing the dosage too soon.

This is a long way around suggesting that the dosage could have a lot to do with the gas and bloating. When I cut back a tiny bit and MEASURED the stuff accurately, the gas and bloating went away. Now I'm starting to increase the dosage SLOOWWWWLY, and so far no gas or bloating.

Having said all that, I also started on a probiotic about the same time, which really got my poops under control, and I think might have helped a lot with the gas and bloating as well.

Did any of that help?

How about Metamucil? I take that and it has CHANGED MY LIFE!! Had to start at a miniscule dose and work up VERY slowly, but noticed improvement immediately. It doesn't agree with everyone but if you're shopping around for one that works for you, you might want to try it (if you haven't already.)
