Hi, I am not satisfied at all with Acadia.
I feel it has done nothing to help, and am increasingly annoyed at how it will not dissolve in food.
Therefore I think I am going to switch back to Benefiber.
Prior to doing so, I wanted to ask, I have not taken Benefiber since they changed the ingredients.

Is Benefiber still safe and helpful for IBS, what about if you have a wheat allergy?
Is there any real difference in terms of benefit or is placebo like compared witht he old, thanks.

Is the fiber ingredient in Benefiber the same as Acacia? I may be wrong but I think that is what I read. Read the ingred. label. I am so afraid to try any of the pre-biotics cause in the past, they acted as laxatives to me and I am IBS-D.

The ingredients in acacia and Benefibre are different. Acacia contains gum arabic and new Benefiber contains wheat dextrin or NUTRIOSE. The old version of Benefiber contained guar gum. Research shows that wheat dextrin is a prebiotic and it may produce less gas and bloating than many other SFS. I would give it a try if I could get it Canada.

The dextrin is derived from wheat in this instance - it could be derived from corn. Norvartus the manufacture of Benefiber claims it is gluten free.

Syl, let me ask.
For somebody who has C, trapped gas, and bloating, would this indicate that the new Benefiber is more tailored for me?

Oh - I wish I could answer that question. Unfortunately, I have not seen any information that shows it to be better or worse that any other SF for IBS-C. I hope someday someone does research to compare the different SFS I think it is something you would have to experiment with.

What kind of foods are you trying to use the acacia in? How much are you taking, and are you getting enough IF in your diet?

I am taking as much IF as I did with Benefiber.
I have a bowl of spinach a day.
2 bowls of Oat bran w/appleasuce, in fact I mix two large tablespoons of the Acadia with it.
I simply see no results and am infuriated that it will not dissolve in water.
