First, thankyou for your info on gentle yoga and how to find it. Also, I totally agree with you that we should be wary - even if it IS the Mayo clinic - of any advice from doctors because IBS is so misunderstood by so many doctors, even those who are gastroenteritis specialists.
I am older than all of you and not one doctor ever gave me the right advice. My family doctor in Charlottesville was always telling me that more fiber would help, but I of course got worse because fiber has to be added slowly and added with bread or pasta or rice. Everytime I went on a protein and vegetable diet I would have an attack of stomach pain similar to ulcers.
Since using Heather's book, recipes and methods, I am so much better. Now I tell my doctor what I can and can't eat and he listens.
By the way I have added an enzyme pill (Omnigest from Walmart) that I take with most meals (not breakfast because nothing at breakfast hurts me) and it helps with gas and bloating. I was watching Oprah and some woman in the audience asked a visiting doctor why she couldn't eat certain things and the doctor said after 55, we lose certain digestive enzymes. Since then I use the enzyme and it helps. (REMEMBER- NOTHING IS A CURE.)Just thought I would pass it on. I am not an advocate for any enzyme and I hardly know what I m taking, but it's harmless and it works for me and it might work for you.
