i know you can make rice in the microwave... as far as i remember it's pretty simple. just buy a box that has microwave instructions on it. mostly i think you just have to make sure you have a covered container. i bought some basmati rice from whole foods that worked great in the microwave. but i know it works with other kinds, too.

frozen veggies are easy to cook in the micro, too. just put them in a covered dish with a little bit of water and microwave till they're nice and soft.

instant grits and oatmeal and cream of rice are all good breakfast microwave-y things...

i even made pasta in the microwave! micro the water to a boil, add the pasta, and micro some more for however long it says on the box (i tried that when i was living in a hotel for 2 weeks when i first moved to florida)

p.s. oh, i posted a while back about "soy quesadillas". it's a good snack. just take 2 tortillas, put some shredded soy cheese in the middle, and microwave till it melts. they're really good with salsa!
