Can I eat rye bread?

Rye and pumpernickel seem to be among the best tolerated whole grain breads for many folks with IBS, as long as they do not contain whole wheat flour. Whole wheat, and particularly wheat bran, is a very poorly tolerated whole grain for IBS.

Give rye or pumpernickel breads a try and see how you do. Other whole grains that most IBS folks do really well with are cornmeal (polenta), buckwheat (flour and noodles), brown rice, oatmeal (especially instant) and barley.
