My 12 year old son wanted to play Summer Recreation Baseball this year.I am not a big fan of baseball, but i figured its something to get him busy during the summer.Well, when you live in a small town, unfortunately, certian kids are "favorites"with the coaches. Not only that but some of these parents are drill sgt.'s and they are just cut-throat about these games,to the point they will make critizing comments about other peoples children not holding the bat the right way or not standing in the right stance, etc. It is for those exact reasons that i really didnt want him to join this year.I let him play T-ball for 2 summers and it was bad even back then(5-9 yr old's),i hated attending games and listening to these parents belittle the kids that werent any good. I can't count how many times i had to bite my tongue and not "GO OFF" on some of these people!! Especially during PMS Week..lol. So i warned him ahead of time that i can't take the stress of these games and would most likely not be going to many of them. Well today he had a game and the weather is so nice,i took my daughter to the library and then we stopped down to watch a little of his game.BIG MISTAKE! He was up to bat and struck out, his team-mates were angry with him that he struck out,he threw the bat down after they yelled at him for Not swinging at some of the throws,i know he threw the bat out of frustration but he was yelled at by the coach(and other kids had to chime in with "yeah, dont throw the bat!!"),so he was benched for awhile. Perfectly okay by me,he did throw the bat and so he should be punished for it.I watched him on the bench for awhile and he was crying and upset. As a mom you want to walk over and talk to him, but i didnt want to embarrass him,so i stayed put.He told me later some of the coaches were snotty to him about how he struck out and blah, blah, blah.He feels like the whole team is blaming him for losing. He said certain kids can strike out and nobody calls them a "loser" or yells at them.As a mom you wanna protect them and tell off every little kid that calls him a loser! Or confront the coaches(high school boys) about favoritism, but whats the point??? Im stuck in the middle because my son wants to quit because in his words"everyone treats him like crap" but on the other hand, you can't throw the bat and have a tantrum everytime things dont go your way! UGH!!! Not sure if i should let him quit or not,but he has to realize, small towns will always have the "golden boys" ones that always get to play and get all the glory. Its sad but true! Whatever happened to just playing to have fun?!!
