Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

Hi Everyone, I am 28 yrs old and have had severe abdominal cramping followed by diarrhea episodes for going on over two years now. For awhile I would just stay clear of beef (big trigger for me) and ice-cream also a trigger but then in the past year the episodes have gotten more frequent usually biweekly or more and have impacted me being able to leave the house. Luckily I work from home so I haven't had to miss work but I have two small children at home and the fact that my episodes are impacting doing activities with them WHEN i want to is beyond frustrating! After several months of testing and ruling out Crohns, Colitis, parasites, cdiff, food allergies, etc etc my doctor finally said he believes i do have IBS and wasn't sure really on how to direct me to treat it. I became very depressed and hopeless UNTIL I found this website! Finally I feel like people understand me that this is not something just in my head and I feel hopeful that the diet Heather recommends will help me no longer leave in fear or awful 24/7! I do have a question for you ladies out there, have any of you suspected or know of a link between taking birth control and it worsening your IBS symptoms? One thing I am also exploring is that possibility. My doctor had put me on a different pill about two years ago and thinking back now afterwards my symptoms begun to get worse. It could be just a fluke but I was just curious as to anyone else has that suspicion. So here is to being hopeful and hoping this website has helped me find the light at the end of the tunnel.
