Some of you may not be aware that each month, the University of North Carolina Center for Functional GI and Motility Disorders holds free, public online discussions on different topics with FGID experts. They are open to anyone with a fast enough internet connection to handle real time chat and video streaming. They're really an excellent, medically reputable, state of the science resource, but one that tends to be underutilized. They aren't designed for diagnosis or treatment of individual issues, but general questions or concerns, and we get to talk directly with major, internationally known clinicians and researchers in the field who have lived and breathed IBS/FGID treatment and research for years. They *do* listen to and try to help IBSers if we seek them out.

Anyway, this month, Dr. Douglas Drossman will be the featured presenter. For those who don't know, Dr.Drossman co-founded the Center for FGIMDs at UNC, recently retired as its co-director, is currently president of the Rome Foundation (where the Rome criteria for diagnosis of FGIDs comes from) and many other roles. The chat will be Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 8-10 Eastern time. Usually a chat starts with a short video so that the presenter can introduce the topic, but this month there's no video which means Dr. Drossman will be available to chat for up to the entire 2 hours. The chat portal is here. Check it out.
