Welcome to the board,

Has your sister been checked for chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS). It has symptoms similar to IBS and it can co-exist with IBS.

The Excedrine and Sudafed are unlikely to cause problems with sodium absorption unless she has a liver or kidney problem. Both of these drugs contains acetaminophen which when taken in excess are known to cause damage to the liver.

Did her GI doctor tell her she was having problems retaining sodium and needed to take salt pills and Vitamin D?
