hi i use either a heat pad or thermacare packs on a nearly daily bases, the key is to wear them over your clothes. i also never turn the heatpad above low and i turn the pad on for about 30 min, turn it off and leave it, when it has cooled off if i still need it I turn it on again, that way it's never ever on bare skin and never too hot. i also find warm baths extremely soothing. once you have recovered from the burns on your skin i'd try heat pads again, but wrapped in a towel and on low, it should be gentle warmth but not hot
