I had a plot at the community plots about 4 summers ago. The trouble was, that was the summer we got 12 inches of rain...6 in one night at the beginning of the summer and 6 in one night at the end of the summer.
The second rain happened when my watermelons were just starting to grow. They were all mouldy after the water went down. To add insult to injury, there were ducks SWIMMING in my plot after that rain too! But, I gotta say, the heirloom home-grown tomatoes I got that summer were entirely worth it. If it weren't for the rain, I may have had a decent garden that year. I will garden again someday, just not sure when.
