i've been over at the ibs diet board for a few weeks now, and someone just pointed out that this board exists, a fact that i'd somehow missed untill now. since my ibs started up, and especially since it got bad and i started this diet, i've lost probably about five pounds (i guess, since i don't have a scale) mostly from cutting down my fat intake and the way the diet's made fried things and dairy off-limits, but i definitely want to lose more. i'm one of those life-long weight strugglers - chubby as a kid (teased about it), and not the healthiest relationship to food - i think i became a vegetarian as a way of dealing with control issues about eating. my weight hardly fluctuates at all - i gained a bit (5ish) my first few months out of college, but lost it the second half of that year - it's been steady since i was about fourteen, but i'm not happy with where it is. between the low-fat ibs diet and the fact that ibs makes me need to cook for myself a lot more, i think this could get me to stop daydreaming about losing weight and actually do it.

i'm basically just trying to eat better, eat less - to make healthier choices. i'm still working on integrating vegetables and some whole grains back into my diet, and struggling a little with realigning my idea of healthy - it used to be whole grains and vegetables and lean protein, a far cry from the white rice and bagels i'm relying on now to keep stable. i eat a lot of soy products - yogurt, tofu, soymilk, and try to get the 'lite' versions whenever i can. i have a tendency to binge in the way of snacking crusades, just not being able to find anything to satisfy myself. i try to avoid those by either making sure i'm full at the end of a healthy meal, or anticipating, and planning grazing sorts of meals sometimes. as for exercise, i work two jobs, and do some theater work outside of that, which makes me broke and busy, so a gym really hasn't been a possiblity, though i'm looking into same-household options since my roommate just joined one. i used to make it to the gym in college, and i miss it, especially flexibility-wise. but as i live in new york city, there's lots of walking to be done, and try to walk whenever i can.

and that's my story. hoping it'll continue from here.
