IMO it takes longer to re-train those around us, than it does to re-train ourselves into new habits. After all, we suffer the consequences, so it's easier to be mindful.

It took a while for my DH and DD to get used to the idea that while it's polite to offer someone else a treat if you're having one, maybe it's not such a good idea to offer it to me! After the last 6 months or so, they're both very good about whatever they can do to help me be happy and healthy, both IBS-wise and with my weight loss.

As for my friends, I just have to be strong enough to say no! I don't think I need to get rid of them if they like to drink, just because I don't. I'm not going to avoid them because they like food I can't eat. I just have to be firm enough to do what's right for me. Sounds easy, but I think it takes a while to get to that point.
