I was just reading in a book that magnesium oxide can cause diarrhea, and it recommended magnesium citrate (as well as calcium citrate) if you are supplementing your calcium and magnesium. Since I have also been diagnosed with osteoporosis (low bone mineral density), I am trying to get as much calcium as I can--a challenge when you are no longer eating the traditional dairy . (low-fat yogurt used to be my mainstay). The calcium/magnesium supplement I have been taking (and most Multi-vitamin/mineral supplements)has the oxide form of magnesium, and I have been continuing to have "almost" diarrhea and gas. But I just started taking my calcium citrate with magnesium citrate, to see if that will help. So far (yesterday) I passed very little gas. I'm hoping this MAY be the answer! ...for me at least. I'll let you know.
